Sorry, but I'm a little confused here. My V-Explorer II black has clearly visible white gold hands and markers. The new balck model also appears to use white gold except a small part of the hands seem to be painted. The polar model however appears to be have painted hands and markers both the new and old models.

Is that correct? Are the painted hands and markers on the polar model paint over white gold? Is that also true for the previous model? And if so, what's the benefit of using white gold?

Sorry if this sounds ameteurish, just not clear to me.

Rolex uses white or yellow gold for all plots, markers, and hands on the dial.. This precludes rust, pitting, most corrossion and adds a bit of panache' to owning a Rolex..

Painted gold hands has been the tradition with Explorer II, although the originals came with plain gold hands..

The black dial has hands painted differently from the white dial model......

Notice the edge... the paint is only sprayed on top..

What does history tell us when it comes to availability? How long does it take Rolex to make newly announced models available? Weeks after announcement? 3 months? 6 months? more? I am on the fence for a next purchase and drooled at the new ExpII at Basel but need to see it on the wrist to call it

I've heard late summer/fall here in the US, which is what my AD is saying and I think typical of Rolex release times. The only thing that MIGHT make this one different, is I believe, this watch was actually supposed to be released last year, so there might be some already in stock and ready to deliver to the ADs.

Anyone else hear this?

It's pretty much the same as the previous model, with an orange hand. Intersting choice making it a 42mm, one of the more desirable qualities of the Explorer 2 was that it was a little smaller than a submariner and GMT.

I think this looks fantastic with the white dial, but as others have noted, I wished they hadn't made it bigger!

It looks like the hands are proportional to the wider case. Not like the EXP-I 39mm.

I love it....except for the GMT hand. I know it's the classic, and I'm alright with the orange, although I think I like the red better, but the little piece sticking out at the end just really bothers me... :(

I like the white one and I am glad I didn't buy one of the current Exp2 a couple of months ago. I can't believe some of you are moaning about 2mm like its 2cm! You won't notice the difference after it has been on your wrist 5 minutes.

Slightly Dubious of:
- Increased size. It's weird that it will be bigger than my GMT IIc. I can tell you straight up that the current size is just perfect for actual outdoor activities. I keep mine on a NATO strap and it goes hiking, backpacking, biking, swimming with me. For those actual field uses, bigger would probably not be better.

But it's just so beautimous!!
