Gold at 75% and platinum at 95% also contributes to a platinum watch costing more.

It's only a good point if you look at less expensive Pt and gold watches, for example the Omega Seamaster 300 Master Co-axial. Let's say you've got a watch that has got 150 grams (5.3 oz) of pure gold in it. It should be a realistic amount for a gold Nautilus 5980. 5.3 oz gold is cca. USD $7000 right now. The same watch should have cca. 200 to 250 grams of pure Pt in it, considering the difference between gold and Pt density, and the alloy difference (75% vs 95%) too. 200 grams (7 oz) Pt is $7203 right now, and 250 grams (8.8 oz) is $9055. When it comes to a gold vs. Pt Nautilus, that $2K difference is negligible. It's almost nothing compared to the price bracket of those watches ($70K to $120K), and would certainly not justify the price difference.

disappointing to say the least..... The 5711P is certainly more appealing but the engraved dial is brutal and tasteless. The 5976 is just terrible.

hodinkeeThe coolest thing about the new anniversary edition Nautilus watches? They come in cork boxes inspired by the box that held the original Nautilus in 1976. Patek Philippe fans have been waiting a long time for this.
From hodinkee instagram. If the coolest thing about a new watch is the box it comes in, that's problematic

Weighs surprisingly like the Platona so around 280 grams. Very heavy given its slim size.

I think PP doesnt really care what the current generation likes since this generation will be gone soon. They are starting to cater to the next generation who loves big watches.

I appreciate big watches.

I don't like diamonds or dates embossed on dials.

New platinum 5711 is not that bad although the engraved dial and the size kill the watch imho

Good thing is that my pocket won't suffer

My 2 cents:

Likes - beautiful blue dial, original (more angular like on the 5980) pushers vs. the 5990.

Questionable - diamond indices are not too bad although polished gold would have been fine. Subtle bling. Watch case at 44MM on the larger side but might feel less thick, at a time when industry seems to be settling in around 38-42MM.

Dislikes - Dial ruined with the anniversary lettering. Should have just kept on the back case but maybe the blown up pics exaggerate the prominence of the lettering. Perhaps more subtle in real life.

I am really appreciating my 5980/1A after seeing the Anniversary release.

Agreed. Hopefully it isn't as noticable in person when compared to those macro shots. Either way, I also feel as if that should have been on the back somewhere if they felt the need to include it.

I wonder if the 44mm is a sign of things to come from Patek.

More Naut's in a 44mm case size to compete in the larger watch marketplace (primarily AP)?

Hmmmm, Baselworld 2017 may hold the answers.

You have every reason to be beyond ecstatic with your beautiful example of a truly LE Pt 5711 especially after seeing what they just released. Not that you weren't happy before

Wow...do not like the direction they are heading. If that dial stamp was on on the case back or clasp I would question it. On the dial???!!! "Love the way the light hits the 40th anniversary stamp". Makes any Omega/Bond offering look subdued. Can't wait for the 47mm PVD Aquanaut : (

That I would be interested in. The main reason I haven't purchased a Patek is because they look too small on my wrist. Maybe Patek finally realized that larger sport watches will sell and isn't a fad. A nice 42-44mm 5990 with blue dial would be awesome. I would even take a 5164 in 42-44mm. Need a Patek in the watch box.

Would have to agree with a nice sized 5990 I'd be a buyer.

No diamonds or date etching

Looks that way, sadly.

Does it have a new movement that 'fills' the case and has new / innovative features? Five year warranty just in case date wheel sticks?
