I picked up a bottle of the Leopold Brothers Three Chamber Rye Bottled in Bond last night.
https://www.leopoldbros.com/threechamber It's a very unique story, where the Brothers found old 100 year old manuscripts and re-built a three chamber still like many distillers used to use. They distill at a very, very low proof (around 100-105 proof off the still, 100 proof barrel entry and exit, due to their unique barrel house and climate in Colorado). This Three Chamber Rye uses an old Abruzi heirloom grain, as well, and they malt all of their grains in house. Quite a cool operation, I'm glad to have picked up a bottle. |

I will correct myself... Pre-prohibition, for sure, but it was its own distillery and not associated with Wild Turkey. I remembered incorrectly, probably based off of thee B&L label that WT put out a few years ago. It was actually a National Distillers brand for a long time. Either way, a very cool bottle to have.

Incidentally, I wonder what it would even taste like after all of these years? Does whiskey age in the bottle like wine? When I graduated college I bought a case of 1990 Chateau Talbot. By all classifications Talbot should be a Grand Crus. Apparently there were some changes with classifications at one point and they were moved out of the Grand Crus list, but for all intents and purposes experts still consider it to be among the Grand Crus. Anyway, the point is I bought this case of wine and have always kept it stored in the unfinished basement storage rooms of the houses I have owned. Whenever I open a bottle, thinking there's no way it will still be good after all of these years AND not being stored in an official temp and humidity controlled environment, I am always surprised by how damned good it is! After 31 years it still blows the pants off most of the young stuff you buy today. I bought another case of 2005 since that's my wedding year, and we crack a bottle every year on our anniversary. Once again, so good! |

Unfortunately, unlike wine, whiskey (and all distilled spirits) does not continue aging. I’ve read different things about old whiskey, and most people agree that it will “eventually” oxidize and “go bad”, it is usually not bad to drink. A lot of people prefer whiskey from the 1950s and 1960s since it was made differently, and often of a higher quality than you’ll find today. Laws changed and allowed higher distillation and barrel entry proof, which many believe degrades the quality of the booze coming off the still and out of the barrel (higher proof strips barrel qualities faster, giving the whiskey a more tanic flavor)… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Does anyone know how to get rid of a cloudyness / haziness in an old dusty bottle of bourbon? Or is it OK to drink? That bottle of IW Harper my wife found is a bit cloudy and I'm not sure I want to open it if it's not worth drinking. It's an 86 proof from 1955... I thought I remembered someone telling me (or I read somewhere?) that running it through a coffee filter would take some of it away, but I don't want to risk it without knowing for sure.
Thanks to all the dusty drinkers out there. |

I know! I’ll definitely have an easier time finding the full proof. And to be clear, I’ve seen a handful of full proof, I’m just not willing to pay what they were asking for it.
I still can’t believe I found the CYPB. That is also a difficult bottle to get. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’m going to try to complete the set and then trade. And if I can’t complete it, then I’ll probably still trade at the end of the day. Nothing against Weller. Just have other favorites. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't understand the Weller line's extension to CYPB and Single Barrel when they can't even meet demand of Antique 107, 12 Year, or Special Reserve even! I honestly didn't care for the Full Proof and definitely wouldn't pay over MSRP; I didn't find it any better than 107, which seems to be slightly more available. And the Single Barrel release is just odd, since they do single barrel picks of 107, SR, and Full Proof... Makes no sense to me. |
