Plus, we moved into the home of our dreams 9 months ago - he promised he would do his part so it would be kept nice, and explained his visions of how his things were going to be organized. He had his own bathroom for a few weeks but within days it became knee-deep in dirty clothes, cleaning bottles, and overflowing trash. the laundry chute is 10 feet away but he wouldn't use it. I just couldn't bear to see it look that way - it was such a great vintage bathroom. So we agreed he would move into the hall bath, shared by the girls and guests. He manages to keep it looking okay because it is a shared space. thank goodness we found one solution. He even uses the laundry chute most of the time now. Small victory.

Did you read my post about how many thousands of dollars he spent fixing up the basement, which is now so covered in junk you can hardly walk through it? Why bother to stain concrete and replace knotty pine paneling when all you end up with is a very nicely finished catch-all? He had promised I could have the laundry room in the basement as my very own space. It now has 2 old doors leaning against the wall, boxes of electrical parts sititng on the floor, and tools filling up the windowsill. And a mountain of moving boxes sitting in the middle of it that have been there going on two weeks. This is the kind of stuff I'm talking about. To me it seems pretty extreme. Almost pathological!

Well, that was another big rant. So cathartic. I can't imagine what you guys must think!

Yikes. That does sound pretty bad. I wish I could offer some helpful advice, but I have never been able to motivate someone else to do what I want them to do. It's tough to get someone to change their ways, even when they see there's a problem.

So true - motivating someone to do what you want them to do is pretty futile, unless they are your kid and you can just threaten them with no TV or reward them with a Junior Mint.

I'm pretty simple minded. The wife gives me a Senior Mint and I do what I am told.

Oh, Mike - that's close! Just substitute empty Boost bottles, Power Bar wrappers, surgical hats and masks, a few books and manuals, and a half dozen warm up jackets.

Okay, he's not quite that bad. Thank goodness someone out there is worse!

Remember the movie The Stepford Wives? There should have been a sequel called The Stepford Husbands.

When Vukota finishes his zombie thriller, we'll reel him in and get started filming. Really, Zombie Husbands has a certain ring to it.

I'm really sorry, guys. All kidding aside, I need to give this a rest and stop airing the dirty laundry. So to speak. Thanks for listening and helping me find humor in all this!

So I'm stuck, and in need of a solution, or just better pills.

Yesterday I was just about to take the camera and post a bunch of pictures of the "Problem Areas" - his car (the only seat not covered with trash and junk is the driver's seat - impossible to carry any passengers), his half of the garage (reason why he parks outside), the basement, his closet.... and get some opinions about whether this is normal - or perhaps, if it's normal for me to be so po'd about it!

He's driving a $34,000 car, paid thousands to have the garage doors widened and a new floor poured, thousands more to renovate the basement, and then he just trashes everything out like some bum! Not to mention, our old house STILL can't be put on the market (we've been out since Dec.) because his junk is still all over the insides and the garage. So there's an $800 per month storage unit. It's just nuts. And he's VERY defensive about it.

Rant complete. Until the next post.
Hiya Lisa! Been away for a few days and just catching up on threads. Scrolled through this one because I can SO identify with your situation. Al is EXACTLY the same. We gotta head out and bring the boat back from out of town, but I'll be back later to add a few words!!!

Hi!!

We've been away for the past 10 days up in CT at my brother's wedding. What fun! I got to paint my toes pink, wear my pretty shoes, drink wine, and dance until the wee hours (well, actually 11 pm, since the kiddos were getting sleepy)!! There was even an older gentleman who mistook me for Sara Palin , and then the overly laquered and hairsprayed twit who tried to turn the comment into a political harangue.

Lisa, I'm sending over my hubby and a bulldozer to clean out your basement!

I've been wondering where you were, woman! Glad you had fun at the wedding. Connecticut. Bet is wasn't as hot there. Nice to have you back and I'll take you up on the bulldozer offer!

Sarah Palin? See the "Met Any Famous People" thread!

No, I don't disagree! Plus, I had my hair in an up-do at the wedding, which probably helped. And - strangely enough, my dad bears a striking resemblance to John McCain!

Don't forget the ketchup (or vinegar if you're from New England).

Good morning, gals.

Here's how to tell you've been married too long: husband doesn't come home last night and you just assume he was on call.

Advice to my daughters: don't marry a physician. It's probably okay to become one, but just don't marry one.

Your hubby was on call. In my lurid past I would have been on a call girl.
