That's precisely the problem, a lack of concern to preserve the original. Reminds me of many 'restored' Ferrari cars. I applaud Sandra McNeil for her racing the world's only non restored GTO. Same prep shop worked on my Fcar.

Exactly. There's the only thing that could eventually stop VER from taking out HAM. But I'm 90% sure that he will do it nonetheless.

Thanks Paul, No I hadn't noticed that.

Still doesn't seem a stiff enough penalty for 'dangerous driving'. LH could have quite easily torpedoed VER, with who knows what consequences.

I understand your point and agree if it had been deemed unduly dangerous. BTW, you are in the majority of fans who feel it was too lenient.

There could have been a stiffer penalty for intentionally endangering others.

The Stewards determined VER caused a collision by his actions but didn’t find that this brake-test was so dangerous that a stiffer penalty was necessary.

The rule itself gives some latitude: “It is not permitted to drive any car unnecessarily slowly, erratically or in a manner deemed potentially dangerous to other drivers at any time.”

So when reading the decision about the collision you’ll see 2 of the 3 elements existed, namely “unnecessarily slowly” + “erratically”. But not the 3rd, “deemed potentially dangerous to other drivers”.

As for the original breach that preceded the drama (VER gaining an advantage going off track, we all know why HAM avoided the pass (the upcoming DRS detection line).

As it turned out, VER continued to strategically game the rules after that incident. Finally the Stewards gave him the 5sec. Penalty during the race which made further resistance futile. I’m fairly certain that Garry Connelly preferred a swift giveback that wasn’t done poorly - Stewards aren’t at the edge of their seats hoping to penalize. It’s always best that the drivers honor the sporting regs themselves.

We don’t call it the F1 Circus without reason…

Now that we've had a couple days to reflect on what happened, I must say there are some truths that cannot be denied.

1. The FIA negotiation with teams on the radio on where they should be placed with offers and "I'll get back to you" by the teams was unbelievable! Yesterday the FIA said this is perfectly normal, but it shouldn't be. Charlie Whiting is desperately missed and Michael Masi has no control of what is going on.

2. There is an inherent British bias to both British teams and drivers. Fernando Alonso has recently said as much as has Gunther Steiner this past Sunday. It's very similar to when the French FIA boss Jean-Marie Balestre was overtly favorable toward Prost when he was battling with Senna.

Given that Max already tried to drive him off the track earlier in the race, the multiple red flags, VSC's, and SC's, along with the blind corners my guess is Lewis was being cautious.

He might've thought that Max saw an accident or debris up ahead and a SC/VSC was imminent or Max was going to try to crash him out.

All this conjecture... a 7 time WDC doesn't know what's going on??? The real answer is that neither driver wanted to cross the DRS line first.

There was more gamesmanship in this one race with slow formation laps, 10 car length, slowing and not slowing, giving positions and then taking them back, gaining advantage off track etc than in the entire season combined.

Yes, you have it right about HAM hanging back according to testimony. I do believe him though on one point - when he ducked back in line after T22, and the heavy anchor came out of the 33, he didn’t know that was going to happen.

But…it is what it is.

On your earlier post, I agree that nobody from Tilke to the Prince, and none of the players or officials covered themselves in Glory.

While that is true it also makes me wonder if they over design those wings aerodynamically. When it is damaged and he is still setting fast lap after fast lap how crucial is the part in 100% condition anyways?

I was thinking this was well, meanwhile earlier this season when Max lost some bargeboard he could barely pass a Haas
