Looks like it still has the loose fitting first link, no? I thought this was remedied. Simply a beauty otherwise.

It's just a fatter spring-bar. Czapek will send you a packet if you ask nicely.

Today I received my 40.5 Antarctique Glacier Blue. I originally ordered in Feb 22 and my original delivery date was almost exactly a year from the order date.

When I ordered my only concern was size of the watch. I have a 6.75 wrist and most pictures of the 40.5 watch make it appear rather large. The 38 mm variant had been announced and I wondered if that might be a better alternative.

To allay that concern, I traveled to the Watchtime show in New York in October. There I was able to meet Mike Margolis and Xavier de Roquemaurel. I was able to try on both variants of the watch and I was sure the 40.5 was the right size for me. I was very pleased with this trip. I was actually able to try on several Antarctiques including a glacier blue, an Arctic White, a green Fratello, and a Ratrapante. Don’t get me wrong, not all of these were available at Czapek’s booth, but I met many watch enthusiasts at the show and everyone was happy to share their watches.

Last week, I received an email from Czapek stating that my Antarctique was ready. From there, Mike Margolis was in communication to confirm how to deliver the watch.

Today I received the watch. The comments I make below are not meant as critiques. They are just my initial thoughts on the watch.

I am pleased. The size is indeed very good. It fits very well. For some reason the watch photographs large, but it fits just perfectly for a sports watch.

The dial is the most intriguing part of the watch for me. It has depth and it catches the light in a playful manner. I have some watches with true Guilloche dials and those have a more three-dimensional feel. Inside this one almost appears painted on a flat plane. Then in direct sunlight, the dial really comes alive.

The chapter ring and hour markers are very nice. The chapter ring is raised from the rest of the dial. It’s a nice touch.

The case is interesting. I like the evacuations on both sides. The crown guards are nice. I like how they are integrated with the evacuations. The case is overall slim and hugs the wrist nicely. The polished bezel next to the brushed case is a nice balance.

The bracelet is ok. There has been some criticism leveled at the endlinks for pivoting. They do move a bit, but it just is not an issue in practice. Yes, I realize I have the most updated version, but I never understood this critique. That being said, the bracelet does feel a bit rudimentary. The edges are a bit sharp and the links are just flat. I also own a Streamliner. That bracelet is in a different league both in terms of form and finish. I generally am not a fan of dual fold clasps. They tend to bite my wrist a little bit no matter how I adjust them. However, this one is better than the streamliner clasp at that and especially so since it has the micro-adjusters. All this aside, I plan to wear the watch exclusively on the bracelet. Leather or rubber just do not appeal to me on this type of watch.

So much has been written about the movement. It is just cool looking. I am a bit jealous of those who will be receiving the skeletonized version.

The watch arrived ridiculously well packaged. It had three layers of boxes before getting to the Czapek box. The C section of the box appears to be veneered with actual Macassar Ebony veneer. I sell exotic lumber for a living so this was a nice touch.

Overall I am quite happy with the watch. I am sure it will get a lot of time in the near future during the honeymoon phase, but soon I should have another Czapek arriving. That is another story.

I cannot thank Mike Margolis enough. He has been a model of professionalism . To him and all of the other staff at Czapek, I publicly say thank you. I am appreciative of such a customer centric company.

Finally I am including this picture of it next to a Streamliner only because I looked for this exact picture for a while to compare sizes. As you can see, these watches are, for all intents, the same size.
