He's trying to cash out before the bottom falls out of the watch market.

Was there a market for this stuff? I think he's trying to cash out while his name is still bankable in the sports memorobilia sector.

Interestingly, on the auction site (https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/auct...from-tom-brady) the Patek 5990r isn't on there anymore. Maybe TS already called him to stop unless he doesn't want to be allocated highly coveted pieces anymore. You can see him wearing all kinds of Pateks on his new weekly Youtube format.

We are talking about (at least one of) the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all time, with the NFL being the biggest sports league in the world (money-wise). I'm sure that his name will for sure be "bankable" for the rest of his life.

After what Stallone pulled, I wouldn’t blame him

Perhaps like most of us (or some of us) we tend to "thin the herd" on possessions once in a while.

Having a home that is a shrine to one's self may be not what he cares about these days.

As for the watches, my opinion is, if I ain't wearing it...out it goes.

Who knows for sure what his motivations is.

The good news is the memorabilia will probably go to some rich guy who can pump up his ego by owning an artifact of someone else's achievements.

No it won't. The big money will get TB12 fatigue and move on to the next exciting thing. He has a limited window. His FA's know that, which is why he is moving now.

I doubt it. It’ll be a while before anyone comes close to Tom Brady’s success in that position.

Waiting didn’t seem to hurt Stallone, who is arguably past his prime

Whatever the motive, I don’t think he’s getting another Patek at retail anytime soon

What is the significance of the Roman Numeral 7 (VII) between "Tom" and "Brady" on that AP? I could see an XII for his number. Had he just won his 7th SB?

Yes, with Tampa.

Thanks, that makes sense. Personally, I can't imagine TB or any buyer wearing this watch, but that doesn't mean it's not valuable.

And of course, try getting AP to spell your name on a dial's indices if you aren't famous....

His GOAT status isn't relevent. Likely, that will stand a long time. It's whether people are willing to drop huge coin to have a TB12 personal item. That market will fade. It always does.

I would bet he is paying retail for Patek, where others are paying secondary inflated prices. He isn't a brand ambassador. There is no value in gifting him a big discount on a watch that has a line out the door to buy it.

Patek frowns on folks who buy highly sought after references only to sell them off later.

It was his GOAT status that landed him those, unless of course he didn’t buy them through an AD.

As to whether his memory will fade and make his belongings less desirable time will only tell. It’s certainly didn’t hurt Sly

I don’t question the selling of watch collection….i mean we don’t know what he has left, maybe just getting rid of things he doesn’t wear, or getting new pieces, etc….
I question getting rid of the meaningful memorabilia….things he stated he “worked hard for (or in)”…..jerseys, helmet, etc….

Sly is different though. A string of B movies and TV shows have kept him in the money. Who wouldn't want a naked Sylvester Stallone Demolition Man prop?

Look at Mantle, Dimaggio, Mays, Ali, ... Their stuff is still popular, but not for the big money it used to bring.

No way TB needs the money, But, imagine all the crap he has in his possession: First pro touchdown pass ball, jerseys from different games, hats, rings, cleats, etc. etc. etc. And, of course, watches. Wasn't he a brand ambassador for Omega or some other brand? I bet half the watches in this auction he never had to pay for.

When you can clean out the old shit in your closet AND make tens of millions at the same time, AND further promote your own brand by staying in the news, it's what's called a win-win-win.

And Tom loves to win!

^^^. this

Great PR for all brands, including Brand Brady

LeBron's collection would fetch headlines too.

I don't see him as a watch guy. He claims to be, but I don't see it...this kind of reinforces that for me. Got into watches when it was white hot cool and trendy. First sign of a dip? He's out....even with his namesake AP..lol

I see Stallone selling his stuff ( some of it) differently. He has a long history with watches and he is considerably older, so it's time to let some stuff go..etc.

It's ok, plenty of wealthy people couldn't care less about watches in any way shape or form

He may be GOAT status in the NFL but he is a sheep following the herd, did it with watches and jumped on the crypto bandwagon as well with the FTX disaster.
