Pelagos 42/LHD v. Pelagos FXD - which do you recommned?
Dear All -
My next watch will either be a Pelagos 42 or a Pelagos FXD, and I'm struggling to decide which one to pick. I've owned the 42 before and really liked it, particularly the bracelet. However, I recently tried on the FXD and was impressed with its size, relatively slim profile and military-inspired design. I only have room for one of these in my collection, and want to pick the right one. For those of you who have owned one or both, which would you recommend? Thanks in advance. |

The FXD is the best functional dive style watch I've ever owned. It's a special watch and I'd go with that.

To me, the strength of the Pelagos lies in the bracelet. I own a Pelagos 42 and tried on the FXD last week. While the FXD wears nicely, it's more 'pared down' aesthetic and pass-through strap make it less appealing to me than the more technical-feeling 42 with bracelet.

Both of the replies above - thank you for them - have hit on the precise points why I favor each of them, and therefore can't decide! They are both amazing watches for specific reasons. Guess that means I can't go wrong with either.

I love my FXD and the almost unlimited strap options. The lume is extremely bright, the blue is beautiful and the watch wears extremely comfortable.
You are right though, tough to choose. I think the Pelagos is the best all around value and quality dive watch on the market. So, the only thing to do, really, is buy both! |

I have the blue, but would perhaps prefer the LHD.
FXD is very nice, very novel, but I just want the proper bracelet ultimately. I think the slimness is negated by the fact it has to use a pass-through strap. And I don' like the look of the strap honestly. I thought I was in love with the P39, but the more I look at it's brushed bezel and sunburst, the more I just want the matte of the 42mm. Perfect would be a 39mm LHD with the color scheme of the LHD IMO. |

FXD would be a 3rd or 4th watch for me, and 100% a splurge. my Pelagos was number 2, because of the bracelet.

I second this. I love the FXD, but end up wearing the P39 more often because the bracelet makes it an easy grab and go with anything (and it wears a touch better overall). FXD is a great splurge watch to add to the collection, but might leave you wanting if you need a practical day to day option.

100% depends on desire for bracelet wear. If you like purely nato, FXD is the superior watch by a mile and the longer you have it the more apparent this is. (I have both watches).

I absolutely adore my FXD. I never even considered a pelagos till the release of the FXD.
I think the choice depends on what else you have. I have a decent sized and well rounded collection so for me, it's not just ok to have my FXD be limited to certain straps, it's something I love about the watch. There is a moment here and there that I wish it had a bracelet but in that moment I just grab a different watch. Point being if you have others that can fill the space of a slightly more versatile watch with many strap/bracelet options the FXD is for you. If you have a smaller collection and want the versatility go with the Reg. |

I had every intention of purchasing a Pelagos 42 until I tried it on. Just wears too tall on the wrist for me.

FXD for me. Flatter dial, thinner overall making it a bit more wearable, ability to change the look with different straps, super legible... It's a winner!
If you already have a watch with a bracelet then the FXD is a real easy choice |

Agreed on the p39. I just got it and really like it. Perfect size IMO and the touch of red on the dial is nice.

I have both. A LHD that I wear on a sandy NATO (I love the bracelet, but the NATO gives it vintage feel that is out of this world) and a FXD that I primarily wear on the blue rubber strap it came with (the vecro strap it also comes with doesn’t feel right on my wrist ..YMMV). The wife also has her own FXD that she wears on an after-market perlon strap.
Anyway, in my view the LHD is the superior watch. There’s something about it that is straight special. It looks good, and the creamish lume gives it a feel that is special (and interestingly doesn’t feel like fauxtina). I love the single red text on the dial, and that each has its own unique number engraved on the back. Also, the LHD has its own Marine Nationale roots (similar to the FXD) as there were some left-handed Tudor submariners it can claim history from. All in all, the LHD is an amazing reference and one that I am really happy with. With that said, I would recommend you get the FXD. Why? The strong MN history (both historical and current), the thinner case, and it fends off the LHD’s quirky left-hand styling with its own quirky attribute of having a count-down bezel. It is also quite good looking. If you can only get one, get the FXD. You’ll not regret it. |

Hard pick.
I own both and have a hard time deciding. With that being said, I prefer my Pelagos on a Nato so.... |
