FOIS, saw it in the metal couldn’t say no

For some reason this sits on my wrist better than the 321. 321 is my cousins white speedy and FOIS mine.

This crystal should be put on all speedmasters. Looks like hesalite but doesn’t scratch. Beautiful.

Yes it does. The Ed White really sits tall on my wrist and feels “bulbous”. The FOIS hugs my wrist better closer to the moonwatch.

It’s a tad more heavy than the Ed White as well. The Ed White feels strangely light.

The Crystal and hands also better on the FOIS vs Ed White.

Congratulations. Great watch.

I suspect the difference is the sapphire back on the E/W which makes it ever so slightly taller but there isn’t much in it at all.

Steve, I think you’re right, had a closer look at the case back, the Ed White is a bit thicker.

The FOiS is a really remarkable watch. I was at my favourite Omega boutique in London, which has been very kind to me (including the 321 and Snoopy), and asked to see the FOiS.

Thoughts:
- a beautiful watch.
- the domed sapphire is literally perfect. Absolutely gorgeous crystal.
- the soleil-esque dial is OK and changes colour depending on angle from blue/gray to black. Nice, but my mind was still on the crystal. (That crystal is really nice).
- I was actually OK with the fauxtina. I preferred the softer colouring that the 321 indices have, but the FOiS was Ok. It was not the big issue that some have made it to be, and in fact, fits the dial of the FOiS very well.

MY comparison of the FOiS with the 321:
- I can see why it can work (for most people, especially those who wanted a 321 but couldn’t get one) as a real substitute for the Ed White. They’re very similar at a casual glance and have very similar design language as we all know.
-I prefer the 321’s ceramic bezel.
- I absolutely love the FOiS crystal. It is truly remarkable in its shape.
- Interestingly, I prefer the 321’s more subdued dial over the (magnificent) soleil dial of the FOiS. As beautiful as that dial is, I prefer a more subdued dial.
- Same when it comes to the indices …I prefer the soften tones of the 321, but I am totally ok with what the FOiS has.
- I love the hands of the FOiS, but the hands of the 321 are significantly easier to read.
- The FOiS has a better clasp as it is easier to adjust.
- Obviously, the case back of the 321 wins because it allows one to see that gorgeous movement, but the engraved back of the FOiS works for it quite well.

Overall, the FOiS is a REALLY good watch. The OB offered the watch to me, and I was genuinely tempted but couldn’t pull the trigger as I found it quite similar to the 321 I have. I do know that if I didn’t own a 321 I would have gobbled it up in a second.

What I do plan to do though is see if the wife wants it …that way I can justify getting it as well. That has actually helped me add more watches to my collectiion - I mean, HER collection … - that I may not have been able to justify.

The FOiS is an amazing reference. I still think the Ed White comes ahead because of its historically significant movement, and the 321 movement is achingly beautiful, but the FOiS is a really amazing watch.

It would be a great buy.

Nice watch. I tried it on myself today at the boutique.
I prefer the 321, but this is a nice, more obtainable substitute.

This is a great post. I owned the 321 previously and concur with the vast majority of it having a FOIS now.

I loved the ceramic bezel of the 321 and it gives the watch some real presence. I also thought the lume colour of the 321 was perfection. The open back of the 321 is phenomenal, and the 3861 is not a bad looking movement, so they could have made it open backed but maybe that would be one similarity too many.

They are not deal breakers, but if they were changed the FOIS would be for me pretty much perfect as I love the dial and crystal and much of the rest is identical.

As it stands, at the price point I think it’s pretty good value and I’m a bit surprised it’s lower in price than a sapphire sandwich/ white speedmaster if I’m honest.

At £7,400 vs £14,500 for the 321 I think it’s a really compelling watch for those who want the straight lugged case (which I prefer) but who have less interest or emotional attachment to the 321 movement.

I'm staying away from the OB. I'm so weak I know I would have to have it!

Wear it in good health!
