I found out a woman needed cash. She had this gorgeous vintage Rolex - 1940, 18k gold, original everything. (I posted a pic but will post one again here). The dial looks great and original crystal (glass) with a faint scratch only seen in the sunlight. She bought this for $1,800 in 2006 and gave me the receipt. She also had it serviced this year and gave me receipt from that. The best part is that it is the original 1940 band, it looks like a "hair braid" band, very dark brown, with gold clasps and the band/bracelet is stamped Rolex. She also gave me the original box from 1940. And, now for the price I paid .... $700 cash !
What's amazing is that I posted a picture of an almost identical watch that I purchased (my first Rolex) last year and the serial numbers are very close and the last two numbers are transposed but the rest are the same. They are both from 1940. I don't know what the statistical probability is for something like this to happen to one person. Both originated in Europe. I believe this watch package is worth a lot more than I paid but I don't know because I still have not seen it in the Rolex book I have. Any ideas anyone? |

Bought NIB at AD just 1 year ago 8/11...
$5195 I have no idea why they didn't raise the price. The AD said "we never raise prices on discontinued models" I said "OK...SWIPE THIS CARD before someone else comes along" I am pretty sure the last US MSRP was higher , right? |

14060M Sub - $1200!
About 2005 (IIRC) I was on a business trip in Philly, browsing Craigslist ads from home (Seattle-Tacoma) and came across a "Rolex Submariner $1200" posting. Of course, I figured it was fake, but sent an inquiry for laughs. I received an immediate reply advising it was sold, however; the seller thought the buyer was likely unable to come up with cash. The seller explained he had pawned the Rolex to get $700 cash to pay for emergency car repairs and now the pawn ticket was due. If he didn't get it out of pawn, he'd lose the watch - and he didn't have the cash to get it out. Seller told me he needed $500 more for his car, which is how he arrived at the $1200 price. Further, he provided his name and told me the Rolex AD he purchased it at about 18 months prior. I actually have a long standing relationship with that same AD, so I called and verified his story, also obtaining a serial number for the 14060M he originally purchased there. I then called the seller back, arranging to meet him when my flight arrived in Seattle the next day. We met, I verified the serial number (at the pawn shop, who of course wouldn't loan on a fake anyway) and all was good. I have the seller $500, gave the pawn shop $700, and went away with my new Sub. I wore the watch several months, had it serviced at Rolex Beverly Hills, then sold it for a nice profit. I wish I still had it, as it was certainly my best deal ever!

I am envious of that LV deal. I want a late model 16610LV and I want to put a glidelock bracelet on it for the ultimate Sub of my dreams. My AD has 40mm Explorer IIs (about three of them in her display case for around that price). Perhaps the same logic...
My best deal of course though was on my 16610. All I had to do was wait 19 years and graduate medical school. I was promised a Rolex at age 7 if I ever became a doctor. I hold my parents to agreements... |

My uncle won a hardly worn SubND last year in a poker game. I gave him a hard time of it probably being fake but he then got it authenticated. Good for him... I'd say thats a pretty good deal.

I bought my wife a new SS Datejust about three years ago during an annual watch event at a local AD. It's a ladies 26mm smooth bezel with black dial and roman numerals on an oyster bracelet, Z serial for 50% off. Haven't seen a deal like that since. I also bought my new Subdate 16610 V serial there a year later for 15% off. Fast forward to now and I can't even get 10% off anymore, times have changed.

Friend of mine said he had a rolex and would I like to look at it. It was an 18ct gold s/s 16233 with a rare white Shantung dial with gold Roman Numerals. I asked him how long since it had been serviced? "never", was his reply. I offered to have it serviced by an Ad . he was delighted./
When it came back from service with an invoice for $875 he said ."oh you can keep it..I dont want it any more. Just pay the service invoice and its yours." Ditched the Jubilee braclett and pt it on a beautiful alligator strap. Magic!! Knoffie |

$4000, SS Daytona from a Rolex AD in Orlando. Maybe 6 years ago. There is a little more to the story but that's what I paid.

I bought a pre-owned D serial 16600 in 2007 (owned for 1 yr) for $3800. It had all the goodies well except for the bezel protector.
