Should i buy brand new or pre owned?
Im unsure if i should buy a brand new sub or look out on these fourms?
Will i make much of a saving buying a pre owned sub, and i want one that is no more than a couple of years old with all papers and box if i was to get a pre owned. In my local ad there is a sub no date for £3350 if i pay cash what sort of price would i be looking to pay? This will be my first rolex and ive decided on a sub because the SD feels to big and heavy on my small wrists and i love the sub. |

Not a better time to buy, then right now! Tons of used watches for sale, and the AD's will actually discount a new piece.
Obviously buying a used one will save you quite a bit. Shop around, and be an educated buyer, and you will be amazed what you can buy your first Rolex for! Good Luck!

how much should i expect to pay for a sub no more than a few years, which is more expenisive a sub with date or with out? I cannot decide which i prefer i like both, the date is pratical and the no date looks clean and sleek
So yous reccommend a pre owned sub with box and papers and no more than a few hours old |

Rolex is a mult-lifetime watch.
I will always purchase pre-loved if I can and do any necessary service.

You won't save much on a new Sub from a UK AD, maybe 5%, 10% if you're extremely persuasive. Second hand models hold a reasonable amount of value, but you'll still be looking at making a substantial saving. The question is, at the end of the day, how much do you want it to be your name on the guarantee card, and whether you want the peace of mind of a full two year guarantee?

My ad is 30 miles away and I've only bin in once and I don't think they would give a young 19year old like me much discount!
Any guys on here from the uk know how much I should expect to pay for a 2009 sub with or with out date? |

If you've done your research on the used Rolex and the seller's trust worthy and the price is right, then a preowned would be a good choice.
I've never had a new Rolex, but had both used and new from an AD when it comes to both my Omega and Breitling watches. I think it comes down to preference and how you can take 'risk'.

In my humble opinion, the savings from buying a used piece could be substantial enough to make buying a new piece less attractive. Personally, I prefer a brand new piece for my first Rolex. However, after realising the amount of savings I could get from buying an used Yachtmaster Plat SS, I decided not to go for a brand new piece.
With regard to the papers, I think there is not much difference since Rolex is meant for collection; and should it be sold one day, the buyer would also need to send in watch to RC for verification regardless of papers availability. Just my 2-cent worth! |

Your best bet is to check-out a few on-line dealers so that you can get to know what is available at your price point - if you want details of some good dealers then drop me a PM. Good luck with your search. |

Buying preloved has allowed me to increase the number of watches in my collection and is the only alternative when buy vintage anyway.
Do your proper due diligence, buy the seller, and you should come out fine. Good luck, dP

90's era Sub ND's are going for $3,000-ish and a bit lower.

I bought a preowned TT sub with slate serti dial (box and papers from orig owner included) from a local jeweler. The watch was hardly worn. I saved more than 4 thousand dollars over new MSRP. So, I got more watch than I would have been able to get new.
That said, my next purchase was from an AD for a new GMT. I got 12 mos no interest financing and a 15% discount. Whatever you do, it sounds like you will soon be wearing a Rolex. Good luck with your purchase and don't forget to let us know what you decide. |

I would go with a pre-owned unless you just want to spend more money. ;-) maverick

Remember that a lot of the members will be giving prices from USA.
Looking at what Woody quoted (who is from the UK) "It varies quite a lot depending on who you are buying from (Authorised Dealer, pre-owned watch specialist, private sale etc) - you should be able to pick-up a 1 - 5 year old non-date Sub for in the region of £2300 - £3000, whilst the Sub date will cost you about £300 more." And you stated that you can get one from your local Ad for £3350. There isn't a great saving. Considering, if you get a second hand one, you will probably need to get the seals checked or a full service. I personally would get a new one from an AD. Piece of mind, full warranty and it is a little more special going to an Ad and getting your first Rolex. Ask for a discount, your age shouldn't make any difference, but it can be hard to get a discount on ss sport models in the UK, but there has been some on here recently that have got a good discount. Good luck and the Submariner is a good choice.
