Likes and dislikes!
No doubt I'll get my feathers ruffled over this one. I've been pondering my Rolex wishlist. Being an old fart/tosser I'm not too enamoured with the latest watches on offer from Rolex. I've got a DJ and Explorer 11(white face) and would love to get a Sub, GMT and Daytona. Quite happy with SS. I love the SS DJ and am pondering an Explorer - both clean, no fuss, but styleish watches. Hear goes - the one I dislike is the Yachtmaster. I would have one in a present - I'm not so daft - but, unlike all others, it does nothing for me. I don't think it has the Rolex 'look'.
Go on - let me have it! |

I'm with ya buddy..I hate 'em. For some reason I picture some old tosser fart with a captain's cap on pissin' the day away on some yacht. Don't know why, but that's what comes to mind. Sorry no offense intended to any old tosser yacht captains. Is this JJ? |

I really like the YM, but the reason there are so many models is because we all have different taste, So enjoy what ya got.

I would have bought a YM instead of my Sub but I thought it would have looked strange fly fishing from my float tube in the local lake. (Looks like 3/4 of an inner tube with cloth over it and a seat. You move with fins on your feet - for those who haven't seen one. My yacht!)

Hey kyle L, that's a YM I'd be delighted to have. What a watch!

To the OP: I am on of the YM's fans. The only reason I don't have one yet is because it tends to be more expensive than the other Rolexes I've bought. I always save up for one, but keep getting distracted along the way.
IMO therein lies the problem with YMs. Nice to have after you've already bought your Sub/ GMT/ Explorer 2/ and DJ. |

I'm not a fan of the Explorer II, and I'm a big critic of the old style bracelets and clasps. I like the steel Daytona as a watch, but I dislike the price and the hysteria that surrounds it.

I like simple looking dials and would avoid the chrono versions.

I currently am a not to old fart/tosser (but given time I may become one) I own a T/T Y/M white dial. I have owned a bluesy sub and an Air King, which was my first Rolex but I have to say the Y/M is my favorite. Personally I really like like the dial and I like that it is a watch you don't see around that often, its less well known and as a result less knocked off. Really there are very few watches in the line that I dislike with a passion.

I don't like chronos, but strangely my grail is the AP ROO chrono, one of the models with the big funky numbers on the main dial, with the chrono dials obscuring part of the "10" and "8"

Kyle, I was in the navy, does that count? BTW, I was promoted to Chief in Sept of 1995, you and my daughter are the same age almost! Man, I feel old, maybe I should think about flipping the Sub for a YM!

To each his own, Dave. If all Rolex offered were watches that resemble the Submariner or Exp II or Datejust, the world would be a pretty bland and boring place for everyone (old farts and tossers included!).
PS I think the YM is a great addition to the Rolex lineup - especially the TT version because of the number of dial options - slate, blue, white, black MOP and white MOP. |

as stated by others, to each his own...
the YM is the 3rd most expensive watch in the rolex sports model line up (YM II and daytona being the 1st and 2nd)... i very much like its understated looks (esxpecially the SS / platty version). definitely on my list |

I did not like the YM previously, always went for subs, DJ, en EX2.
But i have mine now for about 4 month and i am really satisfied. Anyway, i still have an enormous love for the Sub date and the EX2. Each his own i say.

I think it resembles a Tag more that I'd like.
