Does anyone have a Prince
If you do please post pictures. I saw a few at Terminal 5, Heathrow and they were stunning to see in the flesh. Enough of these Oysters, let's see The Prince. Anyone?

I came REAL close to buying a Prince a few weeks back from an AD going out of business for 40% off, but could not make up my mind. Great looking watches, I just could not decide if I would wear it that much.
I sort of regret it, but sort of don't. -Eddie

I know the feeling, I looked at a nearly new rose gold Prince, I liked it but decided that the Day-date "does it better"!

To be totally frank.... I think the Rolex Cellini collection is overall a weak dress watch collection...with some bizzare watches and strange combinations...if i wanted a dress watch,to be honest i think i would go for a DD II/Datejust OR i would look elsewhere...there are many great Dress/Formal watchmakers out there.

There seems to be very little discussion about any watches of the Cellini line. I have spent quite a bit of time, looking at the Rolex website, and have seen a few models which I really like. I find the Prince a very attractive watch, in particular a model in Everose Gold, with a black dial. There are also a couple of Cestello models, in particular one with a dark mother-of-pearl dial, which I really like. Unfortunatley, I have never seen either one of these in real life. In a year or so, I am thinking of getting my first gold watch, and it could very well be one of these models. I really can't understand the seemingly minimal poplularity of these.
Cheers, Carl

That was my thought process as well, but it was still $7,000.00. At the end of the day I was just not convinced I would wear it all that much. All my other watches have their place, but I could not find a place for this one.

Just join TRF, my first post. Been mostly an Omega guy... i know was on the dark side. James Bond got to me when i was young.
Anyways, I recently picked up the WG Prince 5441/9 Godroon, (not Godron as noted on the rolex site, no such word in the English dictionary, go look it up for giggles) I bought it from an AD that was going out of business. I had a good feeling that not allot of people were going to drop 7K - 8K for this watch. I've been drooling for this watch since I saw it in 2006. I went to the store two days before Christmas and it was 40%. I waited a week later until the last day that the store was closing. It dropped to 60%, by then they had another 5441/9 and 5443/9 (black and silver sunburst face). It was a no brainer at that point. Tried to get additional discount if i bought the 5443/9, but the manager wouldn't budge. I haven't worn the watch yet, need to get shorter straps. I have a small wrist and with adjustments to the smallest settings it's still way too big. Was thinking about replacing the croc straps to silicone or rubber. would make it more sportier, just a thought. The Rolex Store in New York City said they would replace the strap to a shorter one if it's still unworn and with the papers. It's still unworn, but the papers haven't been sent, but that's another issue for AMEX to sort out for me. I have the sales receipt and that should be enough proof of sale for them. Sorry for the long winded story. |

I don't own one since I like the durability of a metal bracelet. And, I think if I ever get dress watch on a strap, I might just bite the bullet and get a Patek. |

I've been thinking hard aboout the prince...
I think I really like the everose model. I do have a YG DD but truth be told it's really not that dressy of a watch. it's fancy as hell, and will go just as well with blue jeans as with a bespoke suit, but a dress watch should have a leather strap. I think that deserves to be repeated, a dress watch should have a leather strap. So I am leaning toward a cellini prince, but a very large part of me is thinking that a thin patek or a vacheron would just be infinitely more appropriate... the only thing that would make me pull the triger on the prince is the crown on the dial... |

I happened to see one at Foxwoods ( don't ask why I was there ) and it was kind of disappointing. Don't flame me for saying this, but it looks like a cheap fashion watch, like an Armani... But if you love it, go for it!

oh man... while I was on the ground clutching my groin...you had to go and kick sand in my face...
Where's the mod...I'm getting my ass kicked over here! I'd like to think that the cellini prince was designed first, and armani made an homage... you could do this all day with Submariner and Datejust wannabes from invicta and timex right up to Tag Heuer and oris... Look at the Orient...this is basically from a factory making fakes that put a different dial in the case and called it an 'Orient' I ran up to a dozen seikos thinking that they were Rolex from across the room...doesn't make them Rolex equivalents, or even in the same class... |

I think they are kinda cool. They were introduced roughly 80 years ago. Here is one from 1939 (not my watch or photos).

There is only one Rolex Prince and its not the modern pretender its the models from the late 1920s up to the mid 1940s they are the real Rolex Prince watches.

Kyle, I agree with you and your opinion of the everose. However, I did see the YG model and it was a pretty cool looking classic piece. Very vintage. I liked it but not enough to cough up the $'s.

Rolex did not just make a mold of the 1920's case and used some cheap parts to assembly it. They started from scratch, all new. Maybe call up Maria Cristina Calvani for some new design based on the original Prince. They made it a little special by making it the first transparent case back to show off the inner workings of a mechanical movement. I think it holds it own and then some compared to the 1920's. Don't just write it off because it's named Prince and was made back in the 20's and 40's. Have a second look. |

I can appreciate them. But I don't dress up enough to wear them.

I'm taking notes on the responses in this thread. Some have already been pulled outa rear ends... But hey! That does happen from time to time, doesn't it. Here are some examples of the "real thing", as Peter has described:
