weight of the presidents
Guys:
Where can I find the weight information of the DD of different time? like 1803, 118238, 18208, 18238? I am strugglying trying to decide between 118238 and 18238. price difference is huge, but they look almost identical. What will be the weight difference since they both made of gold, does the weight difference justify the price difference. thanks. ss |

Yes. Apperantly there is a difference in weight.
But, what you are paying for is the new double quickset movement. http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=44350 |

I do not have one but the 118###series is my grail watch and I hope to have one later this year.
I would certainly go for the post Sept 2000 models (the 118###). I understand they start with the P series and had 30% more gold rolled into the strap. The lugs are also polished. I am further told that the later K series is more desirable and has a better clasp. I am sure there will be others who have much more knowledge then me along soon to give you some proper help. Good luck with the hunt and please try to go for as new a model as possible. Colin. |

The weight difference definitely does not make up for the price difference. The 118238 watch is basically the same as the 18238. I believe that the case lugs are polished on the 118238 vs. brushed on the 18238. The most recent 118238 watches probably have the laser etched Rolex crown on the crystal.
The main difference is that the center links on the 118238 bracelet are solid whereas the center links on the 18238 bracelet are hollow. The weight difference between the hollow links and the solid links definitely does not account for the difference in price. Part of the reason for the price difference is due to increased amount of gold in the solid center links, but most of the difference is due to the fact that the 118238 watches are newer than the 18238. As I am sure you know, Rolex keeps increasing their retail prices on a regular basis. Newer watches of the same model cost more to purchase than older versions and thus usually command a higher resale price. Of course this does not necessarily apply to vintage collectable watches. I am sure there are others who will chime in with their thoughts.

I'm not sure of a reference that keeps official height/weight data...besides it would change over time. But, I recall that Pres. Cleveland was very large, and Pres. Taft was so fat that he got stuck in the White House residence bathtub. They had to install a new tub, and a photograph was circulated showing four workers sitting in the tub when they installed it.
