Sell privately and then buy new/slightly-used...
You won't get any value for your trade in from an AD. Whatever discount they'd give you can be negotiated as a part of the purchase price to begin with... All you'd be doing would be to give them your watch. |

If you trade it in you are going to get less than value because the buyer will want to make profit on the subsequent sale...so you may as well sell it to someone here...and there are a number of reputable sellers here that can give you a great deal on a BNIB, LNIB, or other (you don't indicate your preference...but I assume BNIB based upon 'trading in')...
You can feel supremely confident that you can have a positive and safe experience doing the trade-in with the AD....but you will leave money on the table in doing so...It's a value call...what's the risk, time and effort worth to you... My limited time here says you can have it all operating within TRF...and good luck!!!

I'm one of those guys who feels that there is no such thing as an "upgrade", only different models for different tastes..
I lay down the money and buy the Rolex I want... why put it off.. Even though a Rolex will appreciate over time, the prices go up on new ones too. Because of that, I would say that buying a lower priced one now with the hopes of trading it in in the future will only cost you out-of-pocket in the end..

Thanks for the quick response guys!
My initial thought is Option 1 as well, however given that i'm a new member with no credibility it may be hard for me to sell. On the flip side, i'd be willing to do a face to face transaction and living in NYC should make that a bit easier. I think i'll definitely give it a shot and sell it privately first. Now...to take some good pics! Also...when buying a pre-owned, if the warranty card is in the seller's name will the warranty be void?? Again...I appreciate all the suggestions. |
