A real regatta watch

A real "regatta" watch

A student graduating at the San Francisco Maritime Acadamy gave me a call saying he wanted to sell a Rolex Submariner watch.
Of course I said yes and told him to stop by the office.
The standard simple question was asked "how did you get the watch?"
The student answered "I won it"

Long story short this student has been racing yachts and sailboats since he was a kid in Puerto Rico.
His team "Orion" also happens to win a lot of boat races .
I geeked out over the special award box and history of the watch.
The watch is engraved in back, the papers match and even has a card from the other Regatta sponsor Ahriise in Saint Thomas.
We went online and printed out pictures from the 2005 regatta and had him sign the picture (He is the guy in front of the ship right
above the 29 on the Team Orion boat.)
(Team Orion also won this years St Thomas Regatta).

I told the winner I would help get him another watch in the future.

His response " I'll just win one next year"
You have to love that !!!!

Now THAT is cool! I too love that box! Boy, he is going to regret selling that someday... probably sooner that later.

It begs the question; why did he want to sell it? Bet a woman is involved!

He did get a good price :).
Team Orion wins a lot so he said he would get another Rolex Soon.
As far as the reason for selling the watch... he just wanted money to go back home and take a vacation.
We where all excited about the piece but for him it was just another trophy.
When he called us he just said he had a sub to sell. I asked him how old it was and told him we would give him an offer if he came to our office.
The guy is passionate about the ocean. He loves to race and this is just a side benefit that he gets to win Rolex Watches.
I was stunned when I saw the box and both my partner and myself got really excited and had him go online and show us the boat. He thought we where being nerds when we asked him to sign the picture.
We live in our watch world and he lives in his regatta world.

Right now we put in out showcase since we thought it was cool but when it's for sale it will have everything you see in the pictures.
