New to the board and Rolex ownership

Just bought my first while down in Aruba last week. Picked it up from Gandelman's for $6691 out the door. How did I do? Looking forward to picking up the TT Daytona on next years trip (that was 11,600 or so)

Welcome to TRF, Allen. And welcome to the world of Rolex. Enjoy both and stick around and have fun here.

P.S. JJ's going to drool all over that pic when he logs on.

Thanks guys, price wise did I get a deal or is that about the norm for this model. Here at home this watch is $8100 before tax and very difficult to get. Is this the case across the board CONUS or just in my area? It's a beautiful watch, unfortunately I just bought a Movado Fiero (Tungsten) no more then 2 months ago and I highly doubt it will ever leave my safe after buying the Rolex. The TT Daytona was very impressive as well but I liked this sub better, I like the price of the sub better as well, lol. Definitely getting the Daytona next year though if it's still available when I'm back in Aruba.

Hi Allen, welcome to TRF!!

Great choice the TT Blue Sub and that's a nice picture too. The actual list price of that watch is $7825. I guess you can say you did get a fair discount on the list price although much better prices are available in places like Hong Kong and Auckland where I live.

The important thing is you are as happy with yours as I am with mine!! Here's mine!!

Cheers - JJ

Is it possible to order from dealers in foreign countries and have a watch shipped to me to take advantage of stronger discounts?

Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, most ADs will not deal over the internet or entertain orders from overseas. I know for a fact that the 2 ADs I have here in Auckland will not do it.

Not sure about the guys in Hong Kong though. There are a number of great guys on this forum with some fantastic contacts in HKG and they might be able to help you out.

Good luck - JJ

Howdy neighbor! Welcome to TRF. Great looking sub you got there. My wife's favorite.

As to the question about buying overseas, I'm not sure. There's a thread about another AD in Hawaii that won't do it because Rolex wants them to cultivate relationships with customers, but that doesn't mean all won't. Also, most gray market dealers will ship out of town. Of course, otehrs will be able to answer better than I.

Enjoy the Blue Sub.

You got a great deal, the TT Blue in SF NEW retails for around $8K (give or take). So Aruba was kind to you.

I know of a dealer here who routinely gives 20% on gold and some tt models so even that would still balance out to a $6400 price and then you'd have to show your out of state ID to escape the 8.5% Cali Sales Tax...

Welcome to the forum, it's nice to have another Blues Brother about... If you'd gotten here a few days earlier that poll would have most likely been a tie, huh?

Enjoy the Blue Sub.
Are there any perks of going through an AD as I did on my Sub vs buying through Gray Market (besides piece of mind) Are Gray market Rolex's "2nds" that were not good enough to be sold via an AD? I've seen greatly reduced supposedly real Rolex's listed on Ebay at significant discounts. I would venture to guess that these are the Gray market watches you refer to. Will Rolex service a watch bought from non AD's. That's a lot of coin to risk.
Thanks for the info

Ebay is very dangerous unless you really know the seller well and have some positive feed back from others about him.

Gray market is safe, but once again, you should know the seller. Here in Auckland we have a Gray market dealer with a proper shop and he deals in just about any watch you want.

Yes, his prices would be a wee bit better than the AD, but I'd still rather buy from an AD. You did the right thing by buying that beauty from your Rolex dealer. It's the safest way to go!!

And NO, Rolex will NOT touch a watch bought over the internet or through the gray market.

Cheers - JJ

One more question (for now, lol) Is there anyway to ascertain how many TT Blue subs are produced annually? Just curious as to how "rare" my watch is.

Now there's a question, Allen, which I betcha even the guys at Rolex will NOT be able to answer!!

One thing's for sure: Your TT Blue Sub is certainly NOT rare. Millions of them floating around. Wear the watch with the same PASSION and ENERGY that I do and you will enjoy it more than anything else in the world!!

Congrats on a superb acquisition, pal!!

JJ - I'm curious as to what you mean by this. They will certainly repair and service any legit Rolex, will they not? Do you mean they won't honor the warranty from a non AD? Or are you saying you have to show proof that you boght your Rolex from a legit AD before they will touch it?

Well, when you go onto the website of any reputed Swiss watch manufacturer, the first thing you see is a Disclaimer clearly stating that they do not sell their watches over the internet, but only though authorised dealers.

I'm pretty sure that a proper Rolex centre will not honour the warranty if you have problems within the first TWO years of your purchase.

After that, I guess, it really doesn't matter. All you do is produce the watch and a service will be carried out. Only pray that the serial number has not been deleted as some gray market guys do.

I think that's what I was getting at. They won't honor the warranty, but as long as it's legit, they'll service it (for a fee, of course).

Thanks.
