Seamaster Titanium in for service...
Hi guys,
I have just today sent in my Seamaster Titanium calibre 1120 for maintainance /service in Swatch Group Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. The watch has been in service since Dec 2006 and it was my daily wearer (till I got myself an Explorer II recently). It was running slow initially by -1 sec/day when I first got it, now it is running -6/day (a bit out of COSC standard). I was told by the service department that the bracelets/ head can't be polished because it is made of Titanium. I was wondering it there is any truth in that. They said that only the stainless steel version can be polished and not the Titanium version. That's sad because I would be expecting it to return "like new" after service. Anybody have any views on this? Thanks!!! |

The part about polishing is semi true. It can be done, but it would kill the finish and take away quite a bit of the metal. Titanium is notoriously difficult to work with once formed in the final state.
Titanium self heals in time, and most of the scratches I had went away after a while unless they were really deep. My Ti 1120 Seamaster went 9 years before going into service .
