after-market face

I have a ladies date just with an after-market mother of pearl face and it keeps needing repair! every two years something goes wrong! first it was 5 minutes off, then the stem kept turning and wouldn't stop, and now the stem totally came out! the repair guy said it's because I have an after-market face and if I would put the original face back on it ....it would work just fine without any trouble. is that true? I love the mother of pearl face. I want to keep it but can't afford an overhaul and repair EVERY TWO YEARS at $500-$600 bucks a pop! the repair guy gave me some story about it being "too thick". I got the watch as a gift. it was bought from a very reputable jeweler in the area. do I need to put the old face back on?

You know, the stem coming out is somewhat common and shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to put it back in; not an expensive overhaul..

I think that you need to find a different repairman who is more familiar with Rolex watches and has access to the correct repair parts............

In this particle case the stem is broken because the movement is slightly cocked causing the tube threads to wear out prematurely. This doesn't happen with Original Rolex dials the tolerances are right. There are all manner of aftermarket dials some better than others.

I imagine if it's too thick, it would push the movement out of line with the stem hole (case tube). That could cause some issues.

I don't have a clue, but it sounds almost correct.
