Congratulations Rikki...

I understand that Rolex will soon require all watchmakers to be C21 Certified in order to get Rolex parts.....

Congrats!! Will you be offering discount services to TRF members?! Haha.

Is there a thread with your experience from watchmaking school? I'd like to hear a few stories if there are any.

The deadline to keep your Rolex parts account has come and gone it ended Dec. 31 2010. So I am good to go and they now require Continueing ed classes starting in 2012, I need to have 6 CEU's by 2017. It's all good. Rik and thank you all for your support

This might be a good thing. Maybe this will bring some standardization to the watch making business.
Rikki, is there a site that lists the watchmakers that are 21st century certified?

The AWCI has all who have passed this test. They are working on a new Certified Master test which I will take as soon as it is available. I believe about 800 plus took the test and about 200 and change passed it. Don't quote me on the numbers but I think they are close. Anyway I am glad to have it behind me so I can get to work on all your wonderful watches. Rikki

Congratulations Rik.

Can you say some words about this qualification ? Is it linked to Rolex or to watchmaking in general ?

It is a certification designed by the AWCI with the help of Rolex to get every one up to a certain level of standard. I believe it may soon be recognized by many if not all other manufacturers (we all hope). The problem in this industry has been getting and keeping parts accounts from the main players is this industry, many companies don't have the infrastruture to actually sell parts it takes planing, storing and organizing, plus personnel to run it. Shipping departments so on and so forth to some companies it's more trouble than it's worth but if you are going to be in this industry for the long run I think these things need to be addressed. In Switzerland back in the day you had many mom and pop machine shops that made certain parts and then you would order some here some there and put a watch together or contract someone to make a certain movement to fit the case you just designed this older way of doing things was ok when the world was smaller but now it just doesn't work so many of these shops have been bought up and put under one banner like the SMH Group that owns Eta Omega and others. It's what really saved the swiss watchmaking industry after the flood of foreign imports. out of breath more later Rik
