ceramic inserts for older submariners

hi has anyone tried fitting a ceramic bezel insert on an older submariner, i am thinking about fitting one to my 16618, do they fit, any reports of problems, i am just so sick of replacing the alloy one every 3 months when i scratch it. I see on ebay the first aftermarket ceramic bezel inserts are starting to show up on the market, has anyone seen one, what is the quality like, do they look the part eg. font etc.

That will not work, it's not close to each other.

I've never worked on a subbie but if the insert will not fit perhaps you could change out the entire bezel, insert and all.

The bezels, watch, and inserts are not even remotely compatible.... You cannot change over...........

Good to know.

My thinking was since you can use the bezel from a newer DJ on an older watch you might be able to do the same with a subbie.

Thanks!

I am puzzled as I wore a SD for 8 years and NEVER once had an issue scratching the bezel insert... And let me tell you I wore this watch hard...

How may I ask are you having issues with your insert every 3 months???

Yes, the bracelets will interchange.. however, the spring-bars will not so you need to use those that came with the watch head

Just cannot understand why anyone has to replace the old insert every 3 months some of mine are 10- 15 years old.And my watches were used as tool watches as a dive instructor and still serviceable today.Admit they were on S.Steel watches but you must be very heavy with your watches. The ceramic insert will not fit any of the older model Rolex. And if they did for bezel and insert well cost over £700 while the cost of a aluminium insert around £25

Sorry, but there's no way I would consider an aftermarket/fake insert.

Each to their own though.
