Well, are ROLEXES too cheap, too expensive or fairly priced ??

When you look at the

- resale value
- quality
- quantity
- exclusivity
- prices from other brand like IWC, JLC, Cartier, Breitling
- ...

after all of the increases, I'm going to say overpriced.
-Resale always takes a hit.
-Quality is in line with Breitling and omega, which are typically less expensive
-Quantity/exclusivity Rolex's are all over the place, and most working people can afford one, if they so desire.

Think its fairly priced if you look at the fact that competitors like Omega are getting a price hike and getting into the pre-hike rolex territory.
Mostly you are paying for the brand cachet..... and this is true of any aspirational brand.

They are priced with what the market will pay, if not theyd lower their prices as they would not be paying their bills....

Resale value. Rolex watches have always had a good resale value to proportion of price paid retail.

Quality. Yes quality is good but so are many other brands.

Quantity.Well in the high end brand market I would say that there are many more Rolex watches around than most other brands.

Exclusivity.Well those days are long gone must be many many millions of Rolex watches in this world today

Well to me Rolex is a mass produced, assembly line brand. They make way to many watches to be exclusive and anyone with a job can basically buy one if they make it a priority. Yes, IMHO, they are high quality, but so are so many other brands that cost much less. They do hold there value to some extent, if you buy right, but they will never appreciate like the vintage models.

I guess overall they are a bit overpriced, compared to may other brands that they compete with.

Rolex is to me a lifelong watch that my boy will enjoy when I am long gone. I figure in 50 years it will be worth the MSRP today, that is pretty good if I get a lifetimes worth of enjoyment out of it.

I agree...
Although in 50 years it will be worth a lot more than the MSRP if history
is to be "perpetual"...

Over priced just a bit more than what most folks would like to pay. It's the same for most desired toys.

The market sets the price. If they are selling less watches than they want to sell, they are overpriced. If they are selling more than they want to sell, they are underpriced. That's the beauty of the system, the customers, as a group, set the price.

I think it is a shame that quality control isn't better considering the price.

Your paying for the name at the end of the day

I wore an Omega SMP for 10 years before my SD. The Omega is a fantastic watch & just as good IMHO as the Rolex. Having said that my SD gets 99% of my wrist time now.

I think they are overpriced but in the UK you can get a reasonable discount new, if you search around. Used Rolex seem cheaper in the US. I have had years of enjoyment from Rolex and would still buy them whatever price they were. Daft but true !

Fairly priced. It's a LUXURY product for crying out loud. It will be too expensive when people stop buying them and it will be too cheap when EVERYONE has one and contrary to what someone may THINK, everyone does NOT have one.

Since every member on this forum can afford to have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...+ Rolex's I'd say they are too cheap.

WAY too expensive. The average person can't even tell a fake, so there is no great big cost to their "high" quality.

Most of the fakes tell better time as well. All in all, just a status symbol!

If they were overpriced, they wouldn't move out of the stores.

If they were underpriced, you couldn't find the model of your choice.

Neither of the above is true.

5 out of my six watches from the Wilsdorf clan were bought used.......I still
think they're too expensive! Especially in the last decade. Buying used is the way to go!

i voted "Fairly priced" - because Rolex isnt the only company does price increase every year.... so it is still compariable against other luxury (read: not high end) wtch companies.

New ones are way too expensive thanks to frequent irrational "were doing it because we can and you will like it" price increases.

A Rolex costs what it costs.

If you want one, you pay the price.

If you're not willing to pay the price, you don't get one.

It's a good thing that the there seems to be a Rolex out there for everyone's tastes and pocketbooks.

I think it is over priced somewhat - it is a luxury watch, but the quality and exclusivity that come with luxury watches is not "exclusive" to Rolex. As a matter of fact, about 1 milliion Rolex is produced every year, which is higher than any other luxury brand. So to me, they are over priced in the sense that I can get similar quality watches at lower price. But, it is the market that sets the price and Rolex has built a solid reputation and recognition that is second to none (other than Patek of course).
