updated 16800 good deal?
first post!
I just picked up a new a SS 16800 sub. It's in really good condition---only thing is: it was sent in to rolex for service, had the dial, hands and bezel insert replaced. The date wheel still has open 6's. Bracelet and case are in beautiful shape. My question is will the replacement dial, hands etc drive down the overall value of the piece? I paid just over $4,100 for it. Reasonable deal? |

Welcome to the Forum!
Removing original parts does nip away at the value of a vintage. From the sounds, you purchased it already as is. Enjoy your "new to you" Sub, with no worries for a service for several years to come! |

Yes it does but seems to me you paid a decent price although I am not much of an expert on 16800's. Enjoy the watch and welcome to TRF!

I'm assuming it was originally a matt dial?? The first three of the serial number might shed some light. If so a service replacement dial/hands will have an impact on value.
If it was a latter gloss dial maybe not quite so much so. In any event with a new RSC service including dial/hands/insert not a bad price and you have paper. |

If the serial places it in the matte dial range, its a little more desirable (slightly higher value) than the latter gloss dials IMHO. Service dial/hands on a matte would impact negatively, but the recent service and service papers somewhat makes up for it. $4k is around the right ballpark if the case is minty. |

I checked the serial # and looks like it would NOT have had the matte dial originally.

16800
X2. I think you paid a reasonable market rate for the watch in the condition you describe. If it had the matte dial, you may have paid more. Congrats and enjoy your new purchase.
