Important Life Lesson - Not To Be Greedy!
For the last few years, I had a 14060 non-date Sub. I LOVED this watch. It was my baby.
When I saw the Sub-C for the first time, I had to have it. So I bought one. After getting it, I wasn't very satisfied, as I wished it was a little bigger. (there was no gratification from spending double the amount on this vs what I paid for my non-date). Every time I looked at my wrist, I wanted it to be a tad bigger or feel 2X more expensive than my previous watch, since it was. After 2 weeks of self-caused distress, I bought a Deepsea. After 2 days I realized it's too intense. Too tall, I don't think it's as sharp looking as the Sub-C. The rounded crystal makes it hard to read at angles, I don't like how deep the dial is set, the dial is the same size as the Sub-C despite massive surroundings and I don't love the inner ring. It's an important life lesson, not to be greedy. lol. I loved my 14060 non-date Sub. Now, when I wear the Sub-C, I wish it was bigger. When I wear the Deepsea, I wish it wasn't so intense. I feel like I can't win. I should have just stayed with what I had and continued to love my watch. I guess the more you pay, the more you expect out of something. My non-date was 3.5k and the Sub-C was 7k. But after getting used to the new bracelet, there's no going back! If I could only customize my own Rolex. Can anyone else relate to this frustration or am I being too analytical? These things aren't cheap and I can't justify having one of each. So it's important I have the one I love the very most! Does Rolex make anything a little bigger than the Sub-C but not as big as the Deepsea? I am young and want something more robust looking than classic. Going crazy over a watch! |

Always.....always...try before you buy...only ever buy one that "sings" to you or "smiles" at you....take your time above all else.....sound to me like you bought in too much of a hurry, twice.....hope you have more luck next time...and no, there's nothing in between size wise

I limit myself to one watch a year because I've done something very similar to you.

As you know never ever pull the trigger too soon, always try on and on. I do this over a few months before I finally make up my mind... I also wanted the DSSD, then tried it on, yikes, too big and chunky for me

I think it is safe to say many of us here have "been there, done that". I for one have learned my lesson. Like "Colnago" said above, only buy the one that sings or smiles at you.

You guys are so awesome. This is the only forum in the world where I can post a question at 3:00am and have many helpful replies before I go to bed. Thanks for all the advice and making me feel normal!

So what are your plans for the Sub C and the DS?

Buy a Panerai. It sounds like that's what you want only you want it to say Rolex on the dial.

i admire your courage to pick up watches without being totally sure.....i spend months fretting over a purchase, trying on the same piece over and over, and then finally sealing the deal.
much to the annoyance of those around me.... |

to paraphrase that great line from "The Godfather"....................................
"Leave(Sell) the DSSD & SubC. Take (Keep) the 14060."

I totally understand how you feel. I have a 16610 and had the urge to get dssd. So I got the dssd and wore it for a few days. I decided to give the DSSD a break and wear the 16610 for a couple of days.....I was like, what was I thinking? I got rid of the DSSD right away and loved the sub even more.

I can totally relate to this. You expect that big rush and satisfaction from a new purchase and nothing happens.

This is good reason for a Rolex Rental Agency.

I think your problem is with unrealistic expectations. It is, after all, just a wristwatch no matter how much you pay for it. Expecting it to be more will only lead to letdown.

@ Grew and Conrail. Panerai is sweet, but I love the polished sides of Rolex and it's classic look. It's NOT a name thing. I WISH it was a name thing though! That would be an easy fix. I'd buy an old used Datejust on eBay for 3k and call it day. (Instead of wasting hours over-analyzing making the right decision).
Thanks for EVERYONE's help. You guys are truly amazing! Such a smart, experienced -helpful group of people! I went to my AD and got the Sub-C today. For the first time, I honestly love it. It's perfect and I am so happy. Honestly, I wouldn't love it as much if I didn't own the DS for a few weeks, as I always would have looked at the Sub and wondered if the DS would have been a better fit for me. I am now convinced and know I did the right thing! At the end of the day, the good news about these watches is, if your not sure, buy them both. Then resell one. If you lose a few hundred bucks, it's worth it to know you made the right decision! |

Trade in your DSSD for a new Exp II 42mm. I'd pick the white dial version to make it completely different from the diver's "norm" you got accustomed to. Give it a few weeks then, see how you bond with the Exp II, and if it still wouldn't work out, flip it for a DJ II or something else from Rolex that you wouldn't imagine getting at all Who knows, maybe picking something from out of sight would turn out to be your favourite in the long run...
BTW, maybe your issue with your Rolexes is that you shouldn't have obtained more than one in the first place. If you managed to find the perfect Rolex (Sub ND), and you loved it, maybe you should have seeked for watches from other brands. No offense there at all, I'm just thinking out loud. I know from my experience that having only one watch per brand is best, otherwise flipping them and always seeking for new releases could be a pain in the back, especially financially... |

I understand totally how you feel. I always build things up in my mind and when I finally get it in person it seems to never measure up. I'm struggling with getting my first Submariner. I love every iteration of the Sub. I wish I had enough money to buy one of each
