Sub C vs Daytona
I currently have a sub c and I love it but for some reason I've been thinking I may want a new black dial ss daytona instead. I'm only in the position to have one wath at the moment and currently my sub c is my everyday wearer. If I ot the Daytoa, I would need to sell the sub c so the daytona would be my everyday watch. What do you guys think? Should I keep my sub c or trade it for the daytona? Keep in mind this will be an everyday wearer. Also what is the lume like on a daytona? Is it as strong and bright as the new blue Lume on the sub c? Thanks!

Make sure you can stand not having a date on Daytona. Sub-C is a perfect all all round watch IMHO. Daytona is nice, don't get me wrong, just find I can't wear because I need a date on my watch.

This is actually the biggest factor keeping me from the daytona. My old panerai I had before the sub didn't have a date on it but I wished it did everytime i wore it and I have gotten so used to the date on my sun that I would really miss it. But even still there is something about the daytona that keeps drawing me to it.

I would say that the daytona is the better watch, but the subc is the better everyday watch.

As mentioned, make sure you're ok without a date. If I can only have one, the SubC would be my choice. The Daytona definitely the 2nd choice.

To me the drawbacks of the Daytona would be: PCL, lack of date function, polished bezel. If you can live with them, then go for it.
I myself will be holding off buying a Daytona until Rolex roll out the SS Daytona with ceramic bezel. It should happen in 2013 following the usual release schedule logic of Rolex. But even when I get a Daytona, I'll still keep my Sub-C.

Both great watches, but from what I've seen from people's tastes over the years, the ones that prefer the Daytona over the Sub for an every day watch are definitely those that could care less about having a date.
You don't sound like that group (god knows I'm not that group...I MUST have a date on my watch)...so I would caution heavily on you flipping the SubC for the Daytona. Good luck! |

I flipped my SS Daytona to cover a Sub C purchase, zero regret. Loved how the Daytona (white) looked with a suit but for everyday wear I prefer no pcl's and a date. I also found it to be a little too small for my taste. YMMV but I would never consider flipping the Sub C for the 116520.

Off topic, but maybe snag a Tudor heritage chrono. Has a DATE! Plus, about 1/3 the price of a Daytona....

I have worn a Daytona for years as an everyday watch. That's what is was made for. Don't understand why it would be though of any different.
As far as the lume, it's poor on the Daytona. But remember, Rolex builds watches for a particular purpose. They Daytona was make as an outdoor watch to time races. The Subs were made as dive watches and therefore have much better lume. |

X2 Art! Also- If you don't know what the date is when you wake up and log onto computer or look at you cell then you might have trouble without date. It depends on how often during day you need to recall date in case you keep forgetting as your memory isn't quite what it used to be...

Daytona works just fine as an everyday watch, but personally I prefer the Sub.

I owned a Sub for about 4 years before getting a Daytona. Very different watches. My Sub has since been sold and the Daytona remains!!! In a different league IMO.
Don't get me wrong, the Sub is a legend in it's own right, but for me, the Daytona is pure sexy! |

Both are great watches that can be worn everyday. If you don't get the daytona now, will you keep wanting one?

As already said, they both are great to wear every day.
If you really love your sub (as you said in your OP) then I would keep it and wait until you can add a daytona. If you feel that you just got to have the daytona (for whatever reason) then I would make the swap. Is it just the look of the daytona that you desire or do you also want it for it's functions? Just curious becayse you said you wanted it for "some reason"....

I see two watches in your future...
Suggest keep the Sub and save for the Daytona. As others have said, each have their place. My Sub has no date so not an issue, but when I go to the track it's the Daytona. As for lume, you can go with the Arabic dial and it's easier to read.

to me as a one and only watch there is nothing better than a sub, no matter if it is a ceramic or non ceramic one.

I prefer SubC
I like the brushed bracelet for everyday. Shows less wear.
As said, the date feature is a plus. I just like EVERYTHING about the Sub so it's hard for me to advise on this one. If you're feeling the Daytona then go for it! We only live once. |

i think you cant compare these watches for the reason that are different but sub c can be for all hours with out being afraid of scratching it!

You can't go wrong with either....you're wearing the Sub now, so buy the Daytona and sell the Sub...wear it for a while and then decide if you want the Sub C back.
I wear my SS Daytona every day, and 'YES' the PCL's get scratched (it's character), and the lume isn't great (got a mobile phone), but it just wears really well on the wrist and makes me go 'aaaahhhh' every time I look at the time.....or time people at the water cooler (yes, I don't own a race car, so...)....back on point...wear it for a while, then decide!! Besides, if you really don't like the PCL's, get them brushed.....many members have done it themselves with outstanding results in IMO. Best of luck! I would keep the Sub every day of the week. Better watch than the Daytona, in my view. With the Sub, you have arguably the finest all-round diver's watch for the money right now: the Daytona, by comparison, is overpriced now. I would recommend keeping the Sub and maybe going for a Speedmaster Pro instead - would work out at less than the difference you'd have to pay for the Daytona, and you'd get to have two watches instead
