Dust under crystal
Checked my watch the other day and noticed what appears to be a couple of small specks of dust underneath the crystal. Two year old GMT-IIc, just out of warranty literally a month ago. Worn daily, watch keeps perfect time, obviously shows some character. Gets wet regularly, but has never showed any signs of leaking.
Should I just wait until my ~5 year service to get everything taken care of or is the dust something I should be concerned about? Average price / turn around time (US RSC) for full service these days, including polish and bezel replacement? Worth finding a local watchmaker (New England) instead of sending it into RSC? Thanks. |

Doesn't sound serious. A little dust may have been missed during QA. Might be better to wait until service time. However it couldn't hurt to get it pressure tested at your AD. This would ensure nothing funny going on.

If it's keeping perfect time I'd take care of it at it's 5-7 years service. Unless the dust is really noticable it's not worth opening the watch for IMO. If the timekeeping was just so so, then maybe I'd combine it with a regulation but my advice is unless you have to, dont screw with a watch that's working perfectly. :) you never know what it'll come back with.

If the dust is easily noticeable I would get it taken care of, IMO. But if it's a spec that has to be seen at certain angles or whatever, then I'd let it go. It also wouldnt hurt to give RSC a call to see I'd maybe it can be done under warranty as good faith since the watch ran out of warranty a month ago.

Dallas RSC installed a glob of dust under my 16760's crystal during service several years ago. They denied it and it stayed there until I had Bob Ridley service my watch and take care of it. QA screw-ups aren't just for factories...
