Icon20 Alpha "Paul Newman"

Hello TRF Members

I'm sort of leaning towards an Alpha Paul Newman as my next watch. I've heard a bunch of great things about the Alpha Paul Newman. I'm sure a couple of you have one. If I got one, I'd get a nice leather black strap for it, for quick changes from the SS Bracelet it comes with. Let's see some of your pics!

If you are going for the PN look the inexpensive way get yourself a Gevril Tribeca. At least is a limited edition watch with some decent reputation behind.

Thanks for the tip! The Gevril is nice, but I don't like the dial.

Then buy the Alpha that is worth $80 and if it brakes in two at least you get both pieces! A Chinese movement over a Swiss watch, I just don't get it.

Well anyway a knock-off will always be a knock-off!!

Good looking watch. Alpha makes nice stuff for the price. My BIG gripe with this one? The dial says "Chronometer." That's just a plain lie.

Sorry guys! I've been a little crazy lately with someone on TRF posted a thread "What is your next watch" and I've been trying to decide. I'm in no position to puchase another watch at the moment. Which means I'm in no position to purchase a Rolex, and defiantly not a PN!!!

Adam, I've had mine for a few years with no problems, and Padi has tweaked his to within COSC specs.

Here's a thread that might interest you - haven't read through it but it seems as though the title is spot on: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f72/alp...ds-508929.html

I'd have to say the movement in the Gevril is probably better, but man that dial is hideously whacked out of proportion. The Alpha does the aesthetics better.

Don't buy copies or homage. I'd much rather wear a G-Shock or Seiko diver than something copy-cat design out of China.

Thanks for the link mate! The Alpha's dial is very nice, but the Gevril Swiss ETA movement is nice too! I wish Alpha made the PN Homage with a Swiss ETA.

That's a little too late for me "Don't buy homages". My Invicta is a straight homage to the 16610 Submariner, and my Point Zero is a exact copy of the DW 9052 G Shock, but I was going to buy the 9052 G Shock, then the sales lady at Walmart showed me the Point Zero.

Hi,

If you like the, Alpha and it is what you want, then buy it!

It looks a nice looking watch and a well done homage. It also looks like you get a lot for your money?

All the very best.

Till next time...

The Laird

Yes, it looks like quite a watch for $130! It'll be a little bit before I consider getting one.

I'm beginning to share this view.

I've never owned a Chinese watch and I don't really have a problem with the so-called "homage" phenomenon, but it's just the idea of throwing that much money at something that really doesn't have any assurance of quality.

I'd rather put that money toward a brand with some reputation for reliability.

I have a friend who bought an Alpha Explorer after I bought my Rolex Explorer and he was pretty proud of it in a twisted sort of way, but it didn't have enough reserve power to last the night, so he doesn't wear it anymore.

I may spend $5k to $8k on a Rolex, but at least I don't have any remorse thereafter.

If I spend $80 on a watch that doesn't perform like it should, I feel like a chump and believe me I've had a few.

The original Rolex Sub was a homage to a BP wasn't it?

I have that PM styled Alpha.
The stopwatch no longer operates (never did?) but what can I expect?
