Can i ask if any one here lives in jersey ? or have been there on holiday ?

Is it true watches are cheaper to buy there ? if so how much cheaper ?

I can't speak for all of New Jersey, but for the cities that are close to New York City I'd say you will not find good deals. There are too many people that live there, even though they work in Manhattan (and make $$$), because it's a "more quite" option. Thus, it wouldn't make sense for ADs to give good cheap deals.

I imagine in the cities away from NYC it's a different story.

The prices are cheaper in Jersey, though not the same price as UK less the VAT element.

Problem is, you'll need to pay VAT upon entry to UK so the watch would likely cost more than it would have if bought back home.

BTW - New Jersey, named after Jersey, same as New England and New Hampshire etc.

Hettich is the AD on Jersey and is in St Hellier. They are very friendly and give excellent service. Watches are cheeper than on mainland but tax should be paid when coming back. If you contact Hettich they will be able to give you a price, there is actually an official mainland price list and an official Jersey / Channel Islands price list.

To fill some of you guys (outside the UK) Jersey is in the Channel Islands just off the UK has been an almost tax free haven for years and here in the UK there is a value added tax of 20% on almost everything originally 17.5%

Jersey & Guernsey have been exempt therefore even before discount in theory you should be 20% up on the UK , however my last call about 18 months ago I was told there is now a small tax something like 5% I think and I cannot confirm it but I think their list price may be a touch higher, there is also the case of paying Vat on your way back to the UK and possibly import tax on top should you get pulled in customs and also the risk of tax if you post it with and insured value on the box.

Then taking into account travel costs and over night accomodation if it was a special trip it would be fair to say you would at least match their deal and should be under it even here in the UK if you ask enough ADs

Hi guys, I'm not as active on the boards as I should be and I apologise for resurrecting an old thread but I wanted to give some input on this and ask a couple of questions at the same time. My partner wants the new 2016 datejust 41 steel and rose, chocolate diamond dial, oyster bracelet and fluted bezel. UK rrp £9600
I'm travelling to jersey (Channel Islands) and ordered ahead. I get to purchase this at 15% off retail and get to claim back the 5% gst at the airport (only if you fly) flight costs me £70 return from London Gatwick midweek return same day , I live half hour away from Gatwick
So costs are kept down. Now I've seen this model in a few jewellers and I know they wouldn't be able to offer me anything close to what I'm getting. I have got a very good relationship with a manager of an AD in Knightsbridge (go out for drinks and dinner) and he can only offer 12%.
I guess my questions would be
Should I expect /push for "discount" where I've ordered on top of their price minus the VAT?
Is it difficult to obtain discount on a 2016 new model ?
Has anyone obtained a discount in the Channel Islands?

Again apologies for the questions but it may help members in future as its very "do able" going on a day trip from London without luggage.

I think you should be able to get more then 12% on that watch specially if you dine and drink with the manager.

Push him for 20%.

That's what I thought, and I have trust me..... Im not sure what there is going on at the moment but there's a story I've heard off numerous managers that rolex are cracking down on this "discount" and threatening to pull out. I thought it may be because in London and the weak pound they have no need to discount as they know they can sell. I was in his office and there was an Arab guy wanted to buy 6 high end models and they let him walk
They wouldn't entertain it. It does seem that every dealer has their own rules

Yes, there are pice advantages of buying there.

My brother-in-law bought his Patek Philippe 5146 from Jersey. Came back fine with the box and paperwork, too.

Huge saving.

I had a phone around today a few up town a few out of London and none would entertain it
1 jewellers said "maybe 2%" ......?? Now I wouldn't say I'm new to the game, this would be my 13th rolex with 2 more on lists. I'm wondering if London is proving difficult with us locals as tourists reap the benefits?

Jersey...between U.K. and France. The original Jersey, the one NEW Jersey was named after.

Same as NEW York and NEW Hampshire ... all named after U.K. areas.
