FS: Vintage Rolex 1st Gen ref. 16760 GMT-Master II “Fat Lady” w/No-DATE Dial--REDUCED
Up for sale is this classic first generation 16760 GMT-Master II "Fat Lady" with rare and Near Mint no-DATE dial featuring beautiful patina to the original Tritium lume. This dial layout existed only at the very beginning of GMT II production and was quickly replaced by the more familiar OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE signature. This killer transitional GMT II features a very early 8.36mil SN (ca. 1984) and comes on a tight 93150 Oyster flip-lock bracelet. Overall, the watch is in Excellent vintage condition. The price for this very rare GMT II is now REDUCED to $5250 USD OBRO, which includes fully insured shipping worldwide. Bank Wire only on this transaction please. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Click Here for Large Dial Scan CASE & CASEBACK: The case of this Fat Lady is in overall Excellent condition with cosmetic scratches to the mirrored sides but no dings. It has thick lugs and crown guards, so it hasn't been too heavily polished in the past. SN & model #'s are crisp and legible between their respective lugs. This 16760 has a SN of 8.3 million, correct for this earliest variation of dial. The caseback is likewise Very Good cosmetically with some minor scratches. The inner caseback shows just a touch of corrosion to the edge and has all correct model number and Rolex nomenclature of the era. It screws into the case tightly and smoothly. Also, I forgot to mention previously that someone has scratched in some numbers beneath one of the lugs. They are extremely small to the point of illegibility with the naked eye and I can only assume that they are some sort of watchmakers inventory, as they make no real sense to me. DIAL & HANDS: Absolutely Near Mint and rare dial found only on the very earliest GMT-IIs signed only OYSTER PERPETUAL beneath ROLEX and without DATE. The earliest Gloss/WG-surround dials have not aged very well in general but this one shows no crazing or dulling of the gloss whatsoever and no marks from the hands dragging around the center area. The only thing keeping this beautiful dial from being absolutely Mint by my tough standards is a bit of cracking to the luminous triangle at "12". Additionally, the original Tritium lume has acquired a beautiful café au lait patina that is really stunning. Hands share the same light brown patina and are all original Tritium. They are Excellent with some cracking of the lume of the Mercedes hour hand and mild oxidation to the metal triangle of the GMT hand. Simply put, this is a stunning No-DATE Fat Lady dial! CROWN: The signed Twinlock crown screws down properly and pulls out to the winding, hour hand set and hacking synchronized time-setting positions exactly as designed. CRYSTAL: The sapphire Cyclops crystal has a few scratches near "5" but no chips to the edges, Very Good condition. BEZEL & INSERT: Original bidirectional ratcheting bezel and dual time red/black "Coke" bezel insert are both in Excellent condition with only some light marks to the serrations of the bezel and a couple of scratches to the insert. The click bezel rotates in both directions with a bit of inconsistency in the tension as it completes a revolution but the little spring in the retaining ring is definitely present, as I have taken the bezel off to clean it. MOVEMENT: This 16760 features the hacking quickset cal. 3085 GMT 27-jewel chronometer grade movement, adjusted to 5 positions and temperature, the first Rolex caliber with an independent hour hand complication for dual time display on the face of the watch. All functions--timekeeping, instantaneous date change at midnight, synchronized 24-hour GMT hand, hacking seconds and independent hour hand--are working as they should and the watch has a strong power reserve, although it has not been recently timed on a vibrograph or anything like that. While I don't know the service history of this watch and so cannot guarantee that it will not need servicing in future, I do guarantee that it is in good working order upon shipment. BRACELET: This Fat Lady comes on a 93150 Heavy Oyster bracelet, which was an official option on the 16760, with 11 links and 501B end pieces. It is date coded "Z 8" (ca. 1994 by the best available data) and is very tight with only superficial scratches, Excellent condition overall. I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form although most Oysters can be made waterproof rather easily if they are not already so. This great Vintage Rolex is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL. Thanks for looking, T. tomvox1@hotmail.com |
