Tourneau Detroit closes its doors
Was just at Somerset Collection in Troy, MI and the Tourneau is closed down, soon to become a Georgio Armani store. I know Rolex pulled their products out of the store some time ago. Just around Thanksgiving, an Omega boutique opened up right across the hall from them. I was just at the mall between Christmas and New Years and Tourneau was wide open (no customers but lots of sales clerks), but no signs or sales announcing their impending demise. Too bad they didn’t have a clearance sale.

I would imagine they had no need to have a clearance sale. They were probably able to send them to another Tourneau store or their HQs office.

Insert generic Detroit urban decay joke here.

That's too bad, I'm surprised it took this long.

Urban decay only exists when one finds oneself in the wrong place at the wrong time. I guess one could that about practically any corner of an urban city.
I try to stay in a upscale area and protect my watches with a monitored burglar alarm system, 1 inch thick safes, attack German Shepherd, exterior/interior HD video perimeter video cameras and a handy dandy trigger happy companion. All is safe now. |

Wow...I was literally just there last week. I'd say good riddance though...that visit was one of the worst AD experiences I've ever had. At one point I had my Sub laying on the table (on a cloth) and the sales person grabs it, picks it up and begins rubbing it with a polishing cloth. I quickly grabbed it from her and asked her kindly to NOT touch my property without first asking permission. Not even apologizing or anything, she responds "well I was TRYING to polish it for you".

One past visit to Tourneau and while looking at a DSSD, I took off my RG Seamaster Aqua Terra and before I could say "what are you doing?", the sales guy picked it up to take a closer look at the dial and decorated see-thru caseback.

What's the big deal? I've got theirs on my wrist. It seems only fair that the sales clerk can take a gander at my watch. I usually can detect a sigh off relief when I take of my watch and they can see it's a Rolex.

One, their watches are THERE for you to inspect before you buy. Second, you're asking to see one. My watch is not theirs to manhandle without my permission. |

Tappers always had a better selection of Rolexes anyway... Better customer service too. And its just a short walk across the pedestrian walkway

I go to that mall all of the time. My wife runs a store there, Tumi. I originally went to that store years ago hoping to purchase my first Rolex. First, they wouldn't offer a discount on any sport model. The staff was always rude. I would go in there during lunch with a suit on and they would ignore me. When one of the local Detroit sports players for the Lions, Pistons, Red Wings, or Tigers, would come in they would give them the best service in the world.
I decided to buy my Rolex for one of their competitors. I knew they were closing a long time ago. When Rolex was pulled I talked to them and they said they could only sell pre-used Rolex watches until the store officially closed. Now they are closed and an Omega boutique is directly across from them. If this is the trend I wouldn't be shocked to see a Rolex store here at some point. This mall is one of the higher end luxury malls in the US. |

Business is WAY down in that area!
I doubt Rolex would open a Boutique in Troy, unless the economy drastically improves! |
