New Owner Red Sub Advice

Hello,
I just stumbled across this forum and what a great place. I have worn a late 60s Explorer daily for almost 5 years now and have really enjoyed it. Always wanted a red 1680 submariner with NATO strap and I just purchased one on fleabay today. Was hoping you guys and gals could help me with some advice. Here is the watch:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...EOIBSA:US:3160

I am planning on getting it serviced and authenticated once it arrives. Was this a good buy? Also, who sells the best G10 style bands? How should I store my other watch when not being worn?

Thanks for your input, appreciate the help.

As long as you know that the hands and bezel insert have been replaced, it's a nice watch. The patina on the hour markers is A#1...

If you search around VRF and other Rolex forums you may be able to locate some hands and an insert with close matching patina.

Do some searches here on TRF and start reading some posts and you'll see hundreds of pics of nato's and many posts about 1680 subs....

Congratulations and enjoy

Oh, search here on the Forum for Bob Ridley, that's the guy you will need to send your watch too for service, he may be able to help with hands and an insert if you want to replace them..

Actually here's a link to a Ridley discussion: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=229195

Thanks everyone for the PMs and posts. The seller just contacted me and is trying to nullify the auction saying there are newly discovered authenticity issues (not specific) with the watch. Should I let this go or try to pressure forward. I must admit that its very disappointing, I was on cloud 9 last night.

Authenticity issues? I would let it go. You may have dodged a bullet.

Check with guys like Jacek at HQ Milton, Eric Ku, Andrew Shear, Steve Mulholland, etc. You know what you are getting with those guys.

Huh? Let her go. Get one with a bracelet for the same price range. Too odd of a reply from the seller. IMO contact a trusted seller here and get one from them. Even if you pay a little more it's worth the piece of mind. Rich

Ok, will let it go, just thought I had finally found one. Thank you for the references, will continue the search. Hope I find a good example.

Authenticity issues AFTER the auction ends? For the claimed PERSONAL watch of the seller? Sounds more like the seller isn't happy about the final price IMO. Bogus Rolexes get taken down all the time by eBay based on users flagging the listings. Unless eBay contacted you stating the listing was flagged, I'd be suspicious that the seller is trying to "do you a favor"......

Agree, I believe this is a case of sellers remorse. Auction started with a buy it now of 9.5k and ended up selling for a little over 6k. I am planning on leaving negative feedback for him this morning.

Sounds like you've dodged a bullet on this one. Stick to this forum or the other Vintage Rolex Forum and you'll be a bit safer.
