Daytona: Zenith Vs Rolex
Which do you prefer? Why? What do you consider a fair price to pay? What do you think they are actually selling for pre-owned?
Stainless steel of course |

Zenith is supposed to be more accurate. Very important for timing your laps around your gated community...lol

It seems people want to pay under 8000 for daytonas but I have trouble finding them under 8700. Most I see are 9000 or more.

The Zenith movement wasn't the first one used in a Daytona. I like the dial layout better on the Zenith I think, on the other hand the latest ivory dial ceramic Daytona is very very nice.

I saw an old plastic Daytona for sale the other day for 23000. It was sold the next day.

I personally perfer the newer one with the Rolex movement. Probably more because it's the one I have than anything of any real substance. But after comparing both there's nothing that would make me chose the previous version over what I have currently.
I have the white dial and the newer one has silver sub dials, some like the black sub dials on the Zenith version. The difference in movement isn't something I can see so this isn't something that makes a difference to me. The sub seconds being on 6 works just fine for me. On the Zenith the sub seconds is on 9 and the sub dials are placed slightly diferent. The newer clasp and SELs work for me. So I am happy with what I have already.

No contest, Zenith for me. Especially a floating cosmograph or porcelain dial!

From what I have seen, a SS Zenith sells for the same price as a new 4130.

Even though it's a "detuned" El Primero I prefer the Zenith Daytona.

Movement wise, or for collectibility, I'd pick the Zenith. But as a daily wearer, I'd pick the current model, the upgrades to the bracelet are too nice for me to ignore.

I prefer the 4130 simply because it's an in house movement.

If I were to purchase one it would be new with the Rolex movement. Not because I don't like Zenith, I do and absolutely love their watches especially the Striking 10th even more than the Daytona. I chose the Rolex movement because I like all things new unless it's a true vintage peice. Personally not too many 10-15 year old watches sing to me and that's what I get with a Zenith Daytona and I'm a new kind of guy.

Zenith all the way. Might feel different if the 4130 had the sub seconds at 9.

Zenith because I prefer brushed lugs on a sports watch. A and P serials have the last upgrades (SEL bracelet and luminova dial/hands) so they have the best of both worlds in my opinion.

I love both references but for me the 16520 fits the best and as Howie mentioned if you can find an A or P serial you have the upgraded SEL and Luminova Dial/Hands.
