Saddam Hussein's custom-made gold Rolex
"The custom-made gold Rolex, with dozens of diamonds laid into the watch face and bracelet, is the centrepiece of his collection. The Mail on Sunday has confirmed that the watch is genuine and Wihaib's £100,000 valuation is accurate."
You can read the story and see the photos here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1811 The watch seems to be a Day-Date. I think Saddam Hussein really needed the Dior sunglasses in order to read the time from that Rolex watch. Otherwise the watch would be too shining and hurt his eyes. Now that is right near the over-the-top category.
If it were 60mm it would be owned by a hip-hop artist... |

Horrible taste, as might be expected. The ultimate in vulgarity.
That is not the watch of an enthusiast, it is the watch of an egomaniac. JMO. Larry. |

The website of Haitham Wihaib, who currently owns that watch, is as follows:
http://www.wihaib.com/02_personally_used_items.htm The website also shows other items, that belonged to Saddam Hussein, for sale or auction. |

I had a chance to "relax" in his private bathroom at one of his palaces in Baghdad. Some kind of green marble, fine porcelain, and gold inlay. No diamonds, though.
Honestly, I didn't feel any more "relaxed" than I would at home. |

Im gonna disagree with what everyone says and say that it is a really nice watch. I like the look of it. Theres nothing really ugly about it for me.
Of course thats different from wearing it. I would never wear it but I still think the look is nice.

From beginning to end, the guy was nothing but a back-street thug - he just mugged people on a larger scale. The vulgarity of that watch is perfectly in character.

well, I am sure that when they verified that the watch was real at the same time they probably ran the serial numbers. Then again, he could well afford such a watch.
When we went into Panama way back when (has a been over 15 years already?) a friend of mine snagged Noriega's personal bathrobe. Back then souvenirs were fine as long as they were not weapons. |

I heard he had it serviced every five years. A different guy every time. When they presented the bill, they disappeared!

I was deployed with the unit that caught him! My base was just across the river from where he was caught. I never had a chance to go to the hole where they found him, but some of my friends have pictures standing in the hole.
BTW my unit was awarded the Army Presidential Unit Citation and Army Valorous Unit Award that deployment. |
