DeepSea Dweller MSRP

I was at the local AD today, I was going to buy a link for my submariner and we got to talking, I have always loved the Deep Sea, I love how big it is, but it is $$$$, so I told him I have a 2008 SS Datejust white face stick dial almost never worn, it just sits in the winder, plus I had my Sub with me, he offered $3500 for the sub, that is what I have in it and around $4500 for the datejust, he has a customer wanting a datejust, so I could get the DSSD for $4000 and my 2 watches.

What is MSRP on a new DSSD? Is it a good deal?

Retail is $12,050 and that's a bad deal. Sell both yourself and you may be able to buy a new discounted DSSD even. You could also trade both for a used DSSD with cash back.

Thats exactly the price they quoted as msrp, if I could somehow get them down I may consider it, lets see how bad he wants my SS datejust for his customer, I sent him pics.

Deepsea Sea-Dweller prices, Euros, in Spain, before the last rise in prices (just 1 week ag). Those are for E.U Residentes and non E.U. Prices are now 10% higher,

It's a great model to have Rob... Just make sure you are OK with the larger size before taking the plunge!!

Having said that, trading out two for one is a big step, and as long as you're sure, I say go for it!

Also, a trade on the secondary market with one of our trusted sellers maybe a better direction, and less (if any) cash needed from you...
Just a thought, and best of luck!

I did try one on today, and have had it on before, I really love the size and look, as in anything I do I want the best deal, I emailed him photos of my datejust as he requested, I wil hear back at some point, but it also comes down to if his buyer for the datejust wants mine, either way it is ok, I still have my Sub and I like it too.

I wish they had a preowned for like $9k trade mine for $8k with $1k cash, that would make me even more interested.

$3500 is an insult, i was offered the equivalent of $4714 from a UK dealer a few months back for my 16610..sell it yourself, imagine you'd get closer to $5000 for it. as for the DSSD, i'd keep mine above anything else in my collection, it's a stunning watch.

Sell your DJ and Subby privately, you'll get more for them.

$12,000+ is more than what you should pay for a DSSD too, so your AD is stinging you from both ends.

Goodluck with it all, and keep us updated! I look forward to you being the proud owner of a DSSD real soon.

AD's like car dealers, want to maximize their profits. So do not sell to them. Sell then on your own and you will come out ahead. A niceV-series dweller can behad for $8500 or less.

I wold NOT do that.

As others have said - sell the Sub & DJ on your own and you can get a mint condition preowned DSSD with no extra cash out of pocket.

I have yet to get an email back from the AD, but I am sure I will and it sounds like I may be better off selling them on my own, it is just more work, if he had a preowned and would trade both and it cost me just a few hundred I am in, but like everyone has said he is a dealer and I am sure he can do better, but ay not do better.

I have a DSSD and really like it. That said I had it for my only Rolex for a while and personally think its much better as part of a collection than an only watch. After a while I wasn't happy with it being my only watch and I have big wrists (7.75-8" wrists.). I'm not saying anything bad about it just saying I don't think it's a great single watch but I'm much happier with it now since I've added other watches. Really kinda became my weekend watch. Make sure you are ok with the thickness and really think about this before you go through with it. As said above the deal isn't great IMHO.

Thanks for all the help!!!!! I will keep you all updated as it progresses, I have nothing to lose so I will push them for a better deal and will ask about a preowned.

I heard back from the AD, the customer on his end likes my DJ, so it looks like it would shake out like this, $7500 for both my watches and $3945 in cash or credit card.

So in the end I am paying $11445 for the DSSD.

I do have a platinum set .75 carat diamond ring I told them about, I would trade that to if I can, but there has been no price given for the ring yet.

I asked if the other store had a preowned DSSD by chance, as I would opt for that first, plus a member on here has contacted me about a trade, but not sure on all the trade details yet, still in convo.

I'm confused. In your OP you said he'd offered you $8,000 for your watches ($3,500 for your sub and $4,500 for your DJ) and the consensus was pretty unanimously that that was a dreadful deal. NOW, he's offering you $500 LESS and you're still in the same room as him?!?! Or have I got this wrong?

I was basing it on the MSRP, retail is $12,050, he is cutting it down to $11,445 and then giving me $7500 for mine, which leaves $3945 balance.

Sell the submariner yourself. Easy sale and you'll get a lot more $. Then approach the ad about trade on your DJ and bring the cash from your sub sale. bet his price on the DS comes down. Otherwise, you have 3 things to negotiate. Look at them as 3 seperate deals.

Which is pretty much where you started out (only a paltry $105 better off). Dude, with respect this is a DREADFUL DEAL. You really can do better. Yes it will require a bit of work but you really can save yourself serious cash. DSSDs are not all going to disappear overnight and don't feel rushed into buying this one.

RUN FOREST RUN This is not a deal There are plenty of pre owned DSSD's around for the $8500-8800 price, V and G serials... A trusted seller here will give you the same if not more $$$ for your watches and you will need dramatically less $$$ out of pocket.

Selling / trading in via a dealer is certainly convenient and hassle free, but you won't get a great price. Selling privately can get you a lot more if you are prepared to be patient and wait for the right buyer to buy at the right price. Always a small element risk of being scammed but can be minimised as long as you are careful.

I agree. There is that hassle free aspect with the dealer and no risk of being scammed.

Aah. Well, if peace of mind is the overarching principle, as oposed to cost then go for it and enjoy the watch.
