Pepsi GMT 16750 - incoming

I just did a trade for a 'Pepsi' GMT 16750, with matt dial. I love the fact that the 16750 has the quick set date but is thoroughly vintage in look.

The case is excellent, with bevelled edges and no polishing. The dial and hands are both original, with the hands showing some corrosion but still more than acceptable. The bezel insert appears to have been replaced at some point, although that doesn't concern me a great deal.

In case you were wondering, I traded my 5513 Sub with white gold surrounds for the GMT. While I love the classic design of the Submariner, in my opinion the GMT is arguably a more practical watch, given the date and GMT complications. Moreover, it had started to irk me that I couldn't take my Sub swimming or diving. Down the track, I may end purchasing a modern dive watch for this function.

Anyhow, hopefully I'll have the watch next week. Really looking forward to wearing it! And yes, I will post photos.

Great watch there Ben, when I see your and Anders pics I might have to add at some stage the earlier cousin to my 16710.

How does one know if they have the correct bezel ring? What are the differences?

OP, mine says hello - I recently picked this up. I love it and its a birth year watch too boot!

Thanks guys for the comments - really looking forward to receiving the watch!

I love your GMT Puffy / Anders. The black bezel insert looks very good too and makes for a nice change from the Pepsi. Did the 16750 come with a black bezel option?

Joffrey: send me a PM.

Attachment 303472
it has much softer teeth around the ring

later and service rings have much deeper teeth

yes mate, the black inserts were an option too

while i don't like the black insert on modern GMTs, i think it looks great on the vintage ones

the coke insert came a bit later on the 16760 GMT aka Fat Lady

Coke inserts aren't available for the older plastic GMTs

Congratulations on a great trade. It is always a pleasure to see new members discover this great watch from Rolex. I wear a matte GMT 16750 daily myself.

Icon19 Congrats!

I use the quickset on the 16750 rather often (my 16710's the daily) and appreciate the convenience. Love this reference as it is a beautiful marriage of vintage (thin case, square guards, plexi and of course matte dial) with a faster beat, more modern movement and more comfortable bracelet.

Wearing mine tonight

looks great Ben and Matt

Ben, you need a fat font insert for that that beauty, Matt's has a nice FF

the 16750 didn't come on a fat font i believe, but it looks much better. i've got fat fonts for my 16750 and it gives it much more pop!

Don't have a fat font on mine actually, it's the original medium font insert (blue back) that came standard on 16750s. It does have an interesting gradient fade on the blue that's just gorgeous!

Here is my 16750, with glossy indexes (wish it had a matt dial) and a spider dial (Steve's photos).

I like the black bezel on this model as well.

Thanks Anders for the suggestion re the font font bezel - I'll consider that in the future. At the moment it's a thrill just to be putting the GMT on my wrist!

Very nice!
I love old GMT's. 2 weeks to go to have my 16710 in my hands! Great motivation to get back to work, it is my first appointment of the week!
