Size of orig Bracelet for Nato replace

Hello, I am in need of some info...

I have a late 80's Datejust (36mm) w/ 78360 band w/ 580 ends.

The clasp has broken at a joint, and Rolex is telling me I have to pay $2,000 for a new bracelet.

Since I have newer stainless watches I was thinking of swapping to a Nato band to see how it looks.

My question, how many mm should the Nato band be.

I have heard the numbers both 18mm and 20mm for my watch but I figure one of you will know....

Thank you, John

Datejusts are 20mm

A broken clasp can almost always be repaired by a competent manufacturing jeweler.. But, if you want to put a 12 dollar nylon strap on your nice Rolex, so-be-it.

New 78360's at the RSC are only about 800 bucks, so I'm not sure about your information..

20mm

But you can also get a Pre-owned clasp on eBay for less than $300 and install it yourself.

It's 20mm and that quote for a new bracelet is WAY high.

Good to know all, thanks. To be honest, the NATO looks pretty cool, and I have some other nice watches. This one can replace my Victorinox as my rugged activity watch...As far as repairing, the metal at the base of the hinge is sheared, i'm told it must be replaced. But the watch has had the same appearance for nearly 30 years, time for a bit of a change.

Any other suggestions welcome.

Ended up buying a few NATO straps, I'll post some pics if I like the result. Also getting a new appraisal for bracelet trade in.
