Hi everyone! I am new to the site but I was an owner of SS Submariner back about 2 years ago until my home was burglarized. They cleaned us out and took the watch that my wife (fiancee at the time) had given to me as an engagement gift.

Well, my wife and I are now looking to replace it and I am trying to decide between the black or the green bezel and then seeing if we can fine one at a good discount.

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to TRF, pal. Sorry to hear about what happened - terrible way to lose one's precious possession.

Both Subs are superb. I would still consider the black Sub-date 16610 as the ultimate Rolex and I've had the pleasure of enjoying FOUR of those babies.

I now have the green LV and find it very appealing too. The maxi dial is not bad although I still love the standard dial a lot.

Go for whichever one that appeals to you!!!

LOL! You'll get all kinds of comments on the pros and cons of the 16610 and the 16610LV. Both are excellent watches and share all the same internals, case, and bracelet.
Many will say get the classic black while others will say the Maxi LV is the only way to fly.
The adage "buy the one you prefer" is never truer when it come to any watch.

I prefer the LV. The maxi dial and larger minute hand is easier to read for me in less than ideal conditions and the luminosity is better--a simple function of surface area.
The green insert seems to be stretch for some as it "doesn't go with everything"---I never worried about that in a watch designed for extreme use.

Certainly (with recent discussions aside) FAR fewer LVs have been made than the standard if future valuation is an interest.

If you can find an LV, try it. If it doesn't sing to you the black is a wonderfull piece.

I for my part would go for the classic Sub with the black bezel.

If it were me, I would go out and find a good condition "F" or a "D" model, made the year of your original..

Thank you for welcomes and comments. I actually like both but my local AD is charging $1,000 more for the LV. Is it worth that much more than the black bezel? The AD is willing to work with me on the black bezel, but they will not discount the LV at all.

I do like the LV more, but I am not sure if it is worth the difference. My wife and I just started looking at replacing my watch yesterday but we have no idea what are the going prices for Subs now. Can someone give me a rough idea of what the current prices are for classic Sub and LV?
