Rolex model help
Hi there, I'm looking to buy my wife a Rolex as a surprise gift but struggling to decide on a model. I'm thinking a midsize oyster perpetual and have looked (online) at models 77080, 67480 & 177200. Can anyone advise me on the differences between them because they all look incredibly similar but priced differently.
Many thanks for your time Ben |

67480 , 77080 and 177200 are all 3 Oyster perpetual no date 31mm for ladies, but from different periods. . 67480 use caliber 2130 the older one. . 77980 use the (then) new caliber 2230 , introduced in 1999 as a replacement model. . 177200 use caliber 2230 with new case and bracelet , this model was introduced in 2007. |

Re: Rolex Model Help
Hi Ben
These are all great looking watches and you really cant go wrong. You might want to find a dealer that has a return/exchange policy just in case. just a thought. you also might want to consider a full size watch like a Men's Datejust or even a Men's date ( which is a tad bit smaller ). I say that because many women these days are wearing men's watches....especially in Europe. I spent 3 weeks traveling last summer there and noticed how many are wearing the full size models. The Midsize is 31mm and the full size is 36mm The other thing you should know is that the newer models of these watches will be at least 25% more than the model it replaced. For example: a mid-size 178240 sells for about $4,000 pre-owned while the 78240 ( the older model ) sells for about $3,000. Example: a full size 116234 sells for about $5,000 and the prior model sells for about $3,300. Hope this helps. Good luck, I would go for the larger size. |

Thanks very much, that's very helpfull and much appreciated.
@bobswatches I want a classic style for her that won't date and I'm not sure wearing oversized watches will always be fashionable. Will look all the as, though and thanks for the advice Ben |

I would suggest the 31mm DateJust, not the one without a date in 31mm. It's more desirable both new and at resale.
Does she like a little bling? Sporty (Oyster) vs. a little more dressy (Jubilee bracelet)? There's two-tone, or a mother-of-pearl dial, or diamond markers, as well as the simpler dials. I have the 31mm on the Jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel, white dial with Roman numerals. Not blingy at all, but I wanted one for everyday and every purpose, and the fluted/Jubilee is incredibly versatile. Good luck in your quest! |

Bob's advice rings true for me. I did the same - bought my wife a surprise Rolex. Datejust with black diamond dial - but she hated the cyclops.
You guessed it, a return. But my AD was understanding. Now she has a couple of Rolexes for day and night, work and play. Good luck and happy hunting.

Thanks guys. I quite like the look of the 31 mm Datejust (oyster bracelet) with white dial and baton markers (178240). Looks pretty classy to me
