How do you store your watches in the bank safe?

I live in a city where a safe deposit box is extremely hard to get, and I could only find a 2"x5" at most. I tried to fit a small Oakley watch vault in there, and it's a tad too tall for the inner box. I guess the only way to do it is to lay all of my watches flat in there, but then what's the best way to protect the watches from hitting or rolling each other? TIA.

Wrap in a silver cloth that has as tie around it. If that isn't enough then wrap that in tissue paper. Why are safety deposit boxes so hard to get there?

My city is heavily populated by Asians(Mainly Chinese & Indians) and that makes it hard to get. Oh, I'm Chinese as well.

The nice thing about the plastic box is you can see the dial so you know which watch you want to take. Then you have the Rolex Travel Pouch to move the watch in. Jason is a good guy to deal with.

Those are nice, but I can probably only fit 6 of those in the 2x5.

put your name on the 2"x5" for starters and just place them in. unless there's a tremor, i don't see how they'll roll into each other resting in-place. keep it level when removing and you're good.

on a side note, what does being in an asian & indian area have to do with availability of boxes?

Seriously, you are over thinking it. If you want to fit as many as possible, just use socks. Just so they don't scratch each other when you pull the box out.

I've seen a collector use tissue paper / paper towels to wrap the watches and store them in individual ziplock bags with a small piece of paper inside to label them.

A local banker told me that. I couldn't believe it, but none of local banks has one available for a current customer. Gotta open up a new account to get one. Is it easy to get one over there? Vancouver perhaps, but what about Richmond?

The scarcity of safe deposit boxes in the Bay Area is mainly economics. Having a set supply of deposit boxes at banks with an increasing population drives up demand. It has nothing to do with Asians or other minorities. Some banks have safe deposit boxes that have been passed down through generations.

I had some felt towels laying around, so I just took two of those to the bank and put them on the bottom of the drawer and I just lay my watches on the felt.

My box is about the size of yours, but very long, as I suppose yours is. I keep three or four watches in there with no problem and could probably keep several more by layering them, but I have no need to do that.

I have a medium size safe deposit box and I did not realize how lucky I was to get that size until after I got it and asked about the next size up which is the largest they offer. They told me that there is a 10 year wait list. I asked why and they said that once someone gets a safe deposit box (especially the larger size) they keep it and pass it down to other family members. In the heavily populated areas good size safe deposit boxes are in short supply.

I store my watches in the clear plastic Rolex cases they are shipped to the AD in. They are compact and take up little space.

I have a complimentary small safe deposit box at my bank. I put my watches in a jewelery pouch, with a small silicon moisture accumulation packet- the type that that get packed in with most items from China...The packets should be swapped out once a year...

Thats crazy you cant get a box. In Houston my banker told me I qualified for free bank box. He gave me the keys 6 months ago and its been sitting empty. You can borrow mine if you like.

Yes, I've heard this from a few people. However my constantly changing ranking of favorite watches can be maddening. So putting all but one watch away does a few things for me.
-I only wear one and therefore insure only one watch at a time...
-The watches in the safe deposit box stay in great condition...
-Instead wasting time figuring out which watch to put on, I have more time for important stuff, like TRF post reading...

Who am I kidding, I do miss my other watches. I want to buy a yellow sub, then put the white sub in the bank vault, then buy a red sub and put the yellow sub in the vault... It's only been a few months, but I hope to maintain this discipline so that I can build up a stockpile of watches that I really like. Then I can unload them or give them to family when I am an older man with more hobby time on my hands...od
