Greetings, it means the date changes in "just" an instant at midnight, rather than slowly rolling over into the next day.

My own opinion is Datejust is better that DateND (Date No Day)

I thought it meant it shows just the date, as compared to a DayDate that shows both date and day of the week.

Just means the date changes just in time at midnight; no long roll over like some 0f the other watches of the 1940s. Think it was in Spirit magazine, no. 15, that I read that.

I thought it meant the date was adJUSTable through the quickset feature. As opposed to the model called the Rolex "date" which shows the date just like the Datejust, but doesn't let you ad"JUST" the date like you can on a Datejust. Maybe?

Did you know that Hans was planning on calling the Datejust the "Ritedate" and applied for that trademark during development of the watch.. His idea was to market it as the "Ritedate Victory" to commemorate the end of the war.

Also, when launched in 1945 on the 40th Jubilee Anniversary of the Rolex Company, the Datejust was marketed as the "Datejust Jubilee". It was not until later that the bracelet took over the Jubilee name.

In any event, why does the name have to mean anything beyond a simple unique name (trademark) that fits easily on the dial..

I thought it had something to do with "date adjust." Datejust was more marketable than "Dateadjust."

No, there was a DateJust before the quickset feature was introduced.

You have obviously never seen a Rolex Datejust before...

The reason it is named datejust is because it got Just date! No other functions, it can not even tell time. JUST DATE!!!!

Here are two pictures of my Datejust, now you know how they look and why they are named Datejust.

See? It got only date, no day, no time, no nothing...Just Date!!
