AD told me no discount on DJ ii in SS

Hi . I have been told by my AD in the UK that Rolex will not allow discount on their Stainless steel sports watches, which they say includes the SS Datejust II as attached pic. Surely the DJ ii is more a dress watch not a sports model and should qualify for a round 12% discount I usually get on Rolex TT watches. Whats your view and advice on this please.

true, but that there is probably the most popular model in the DJ2 line. you may find it difficult to catch a break on a popular watch, as was the exaggerated situation with ss daytonas.
however if you have a relationship with the ad, I find it difficult to believe he wouldn't work with you.
good luck.

Seriously Alan, time to find a new AD

Notice you're in Brizzle, whizz down the M4 to Deacons in Swindon - always found them most helpful.

Blowers is a grey dealer in the UK with a very good reputation and they start their DJIIs at £5,350. I got that down to £5,250 on the phone so if you walked in and offered to pay cash there and then you could get better.

Honestly the DJII is far from being a popular Rolex. The white gold bezel means it's not even all SS.

Is your AD goldsmiths btw ? Those guys really are awful. Went to the one in the trafford center when I was at university in Manchester. They had awful stock. No Explorer (1 or 2), No Subs and no DJII. They told me they don't discount and tried to point me towards their "other luxury brands". This was a year ago so things may of changed.

Tell the AD that you do not allow 'no discount' sales

You can definately get a discount on DJ2s. Even at an AD.
Take your money somewhere else.

WOW!

A month earlier you buy a $22,000 dollar watch and they won't give you a discount on a DJII?

I would never do business with them again.

Yikes, guess he doesn't want your money then. On to the next one.

sidenote:
Now I have always heard that in general Rolex doesn't want their watches discounted and pressures and controls their ADs to ensure so. IIrc they said this was partly why Jared Jewelers lost their ad status. So is it common practice to expect discounts on Rolex watches at ADs, and I'm referring to the average guy walking in paying cash and not a repeat customer who has spent x amount of money there.

In my experience, discounts depend on the AD and its location. The one closest to home just became a Rolex boutique and it is located in a very touristy destination. Discounts are zero for any model (even a 36mm TT DJ) no matter what. They got so much volume that they don't really care, plus I figure they must be tightly controlled by Rolex. The best they offer is zero % financing.

I asked to look at the smooth bezel DJ2 not too long ago at an AD.

Did not even ask about price but the salesperson proactively said "you know we can't discount Rolex. Especially this one. It was THE most popular model we had during the holidays."

My response: "Wasn't any watch I asked to see going to be THE most popular model you have?"

That prompted a 5 second awkward silence that was interrupted by the manager coming in to try and aggressively close a sale.

Really, in this economy?? You should be able to get a discount. I think your AD does not really appreciate your business. Answer him back by taking your hard earned money somewhere else.

Goldsmiths are a large chain, and as such aren't the best type of AD to negotiate with, they will discount Tag, Breitling etc, but try and keep Rolex as their "grail" brand.

Try and independent, I use Charles Fox in Bournemouth and Hartmanns in Galway, both are a pleasure to deal with and understand a customers requirements to do a deal.

No bull I just priced one out at my AD . He took off $1250 off the price. Now I'll tell you we have a good relationship thru the years, that helps!
