Tourneau-Is it true?
So I take off from work a little early yesterday, walking around. Checked out Modell's for some new sneakers, Gamestop for a few games, just looking around. I end up at Tourneau on 34th and 7th. I was just browsing (again I get the evil eyes cause I look like I'm 17 even though I was suited up.) I stop in front of the Rolex display and instead of the usual snotty b!tch (forgot her name, ripped up her card) this much nicer man about mid to late 30's asks if I need help. I look at the ss Z series Datejust with hidden Jubilee bracelet. It had a silver Roman dial and DAMN! I wanted to buy it on the spot! They had the same exact one with mop diamond dial for about 3k more, but the silver Roman was just right. So, to wrap up this long winded story, does Tourneau really not give any discount whatsoever? He kept smiling apologetically and said they and Wempe are the only two AD'S in NY and they can't give discounts. Is this true?

I do believe it is true. Their "thing" is that they have an "interest-free" plan where you get two years interest free. You pay 1/24 of the balance every month for two years. It adds up to a nice discount, it eliminates your "cost of carry" since you--
1- Don't pay interest for 2 years, and 2- Earn interest for two years on the money you would have put down.

Dunno, but that combo is one of my favorite watches. It has a look very close to the WG day date. I almost went that way before I decided on the TOG. BTW, unless you are dead set buying new, if you watch closely enough on SC, you may find a very clean one and save a bunch of green. That's how I bought the TOG and it was essentially brand new- I mean perfect.

That's what he offered, but he had to "check" if he could do that, 24 months 0% interest. By the way Datejustss, what is SC?

I do know that Ben Bridge is known to not offer any discounts, but I would have thought Tourneau did.

Forsure Tourneau doesnt discount on Rolex. But that 2yr no interest is great if you want it. Man I cant believe there are only 2 ADs in that area. I get 20%-25% off DJ from a AD here in Cali. I'd drive up to NJ and pick one up and have them ship it so you save tax too.

I just bought my GMT-IIc from London Jewelers at Americana Manhasset, and the sales person said no discounts on any Rolex watches. Especially the GMT-IIc. Perhaps go to LJ and see if they have your model, I am a sophomore college student and I had my college sweatshirt with sweatpants when I walked into the store and they treated me with the highest respect.
PS - I was at that Tourneau location you are referring to complete a private sale couple of weeks ago, that had to be the smallest Tourneau location I had ever seen. Unfortunately, they did not have the GMT-IIc in stock at that time. |

Yeah, it's pretty small, and the selection is really small. I'm not a big sports watch fan, but I do like the gmt II. They didn't have it but one store in the jewelry district where I had my bezel put on had everything under the sun. Except the Yachtmaster II. |

I wasn't able to get a discount on my gold GMT Master II C, although the AD did pick up my sales tax, which here is 8.25% so that was a little something. The problem, I was told, is that the GMT's are going out the door as fast as they can get them in, which in the gold with black dial appears to be correct from all the trouble I had finding one.

The tourneau in the mall at westchester does not discount the price of new rolex, but does give a reasonable trade in price of older or used rolex watches.

They don't give discounts
I live in Long Island NY - I wanted to buy my SS Sub Date there and they said they don't give discounts - plus (vincent ferrari - the sales guy - "welcome to NY") the sales guy said they don't even apply the 2 year discount to the SS rolexes as they "fly out the door" on their own.
Turns out - I visited my hometown - from Northeast IN - and bought my SS Sub Date with new CRB for 10% off MSRP + since they were shipping to NY = No tax! All told = around 1k off what it would have cost in NY. Plus - since I'm heading home for Christmas - get to pick it up - no tax as well! about 8 days till I get to pick up my baby! My first Rolex. Wish me luck guys. Sorry for the long story. If your AD says no discount - look elsewhere - I'm not looking for AD's to discount much beyond 10 though - or our Rolexes would only be worth Seikos. Actually Ben Bridge gave me a discount of 8.25% on a lady DJ that I considered for my wife. They, like many other ADs, don't discount on the Professional line.

Tourneau really holds the line and says they will NOT discount. They'll throw things in such as a "free watch winder" and tell you the watch winder is $700-1000 when it costs only $150-200 to them at most. They'll also give you the 0% interest if you ask. In my book, they're probably one of the worst ADs I've ever experienced. I could accept no discounts if they were offering quality service. But poor service and no discount is a no brainer on not spending your money with them. As Veilstylez said, go into Jersey. They'll make it worth your while. Sent you a PM on which one to go to.

So crazy...I live in SOuthern Oregon in a town of 80K. There is an AD here (DeVons) and in Grants Pass, a town of 35K, 29 miles away from here (Hart Jeweler)...Are you are telling me that there are only 2 AD's on Manhattan? That is unfathomable.

Well, they certainly told you at least two untrue things. I live in NYC and have been to all the ADs. What about Barthman, downtown (and a Brooklyn location, too)? They are definitely an AD. Second, Barthman has sold me a watch at a discount, and Wempe almost immediately offered me discounts, too. I never had a good enough experience to buy at Tourneau so I can't say from personal experience whether they'll discount.

I live in Orange County and can't stand the service at Tourneau South Coast. I always go in thinking maybe I'll find a decent salesperson...Never had luck. Recently bought my wife a ladies datejust from Ben Bridge; great service and they discounted 10% (tried but couldn't get more).

Actually, there are 3 ADs in NYC, he's by wall st. on Broadway(I cant remember the name off the top of my head). WEMPE didnt give me a discount on a SS sub date but did extend warrantee, engraving and no tax if shipped out of state.
THe big T is only nice to window shop. Salespeople there should just work at Macy's. |

I got 15% off my Datejust in '05. They moved to a much bigger location, still on Broadway but I forget the cross street-maybe Fulton st.

Gmt Ii
Just bought a GMT Master II from Tourneau at no discount. I called London Jewelers in Manhassat and Lenox in Fairfield and they were completely firm in their no discount policy (even to the most valued customer!) This watch is pretty rare, and people are waiting and willing to pay MSRP. As for the Datejust/Airking, there is room to play. You get what you pay for people.

Tourneau can be tough -- at first
GMT-IIC at MSRP. 12 months / 0 apr and a winder was the best I could do.
Also got the SS Daytona at MSRP. Naturally, a discount was not discussed. They have given me VERY generous trade-in values on other watch purchases that ended up being close to 10% off. I think if I went there today to buy a Rolex I would get 10% off based on past business and a good relationship with the manager. |

I guess I am one of the few people here that has never had a bad experience at Tourneau. The only Rolex I have bought from them was my Fathers TT Date ( it was used). We traded another Rolex, stainless Date and they gave us a fair deal and gave me more that what I paid for the stainless 4 years ago( it was used as well).
As far as any of my other purchases, they have always given me a discount and or a great trade for another watch. I deal with the same person when I go there. He always gives me really nice catalogs and the current issue of what ever watch magazine that is out. This is even when I go to just look. Being in the luxury goods business and dealing with people who try to beat me up everyday on price on my products, most likely makes me not be that way when I go to Tourneau or any other store. I know there are many who have had real bad experiences at Tourneau and other AD's, and I think it depends on who you deal with. That fault is the manager's. There are a ton of people in retail who should not be working with the public. If these people are still there, then the manager needs to be replaced along with the sales person if they allow that. I will deal with most people if they treat me the way I expect to be treated even if the discount is not always the best. The people at our Tourneau know me and have always given me top notch service and deicent prices. |

Hey zero interest is nice but no discount, that's a deal breaker!! Even if you aren't paying cash there must be a card that will do a balance transfer into your checking account at minimal interest, than go seek the watch out of state to avoid taxes and GET a discount!!
