Got an offer for my Daytona

So a guy I know wants my Daytona it trade for a couple of watches he has.
He's offered up a 1680 sub that has just gone through a complete service and looks to be amazing for a 40 yr old watch, along with a bnib sub no date ceramic.
He has asked for 1800.00 back with the Daytona
His ask on the 1680 is 6000.00 and the no date 6600 for a total of 12600 less 1800 is giving me 10800 for mine, question is, is the 1680 really worth 6 g's

I'm not sure what to do!
If I met in the middle at 900 back would I be silly to do it?
The 1680 comes with service papers and warranty from Rolex canada

Sounds like an "ok" but not a great deal. I'd be more inclined to do it simply because I am not a Daytona fan.

If I completed the trade, I would not provide any cash back. After all, he was the one who approached you for the transaction. It may come down to how much you like your Daytona. Good luck.

If you want the two Subs he is offering, then a straight trade only. If he wants the Daytona then he needs to bend some.

Methinks he doesn't have $6000 invested in the Sub - maybe $4500 max.

The Daytona and the Sub are two very different watches.

Your immediate question is whether the old sub is worth 6k. A quick scan of the For Sale section should answer that.

The larger question is what do you want? Do you want your Daytona, or do you want these two particular Subs?

If what you really want is the old sub, either keep your Daytona and save for an old sub like this one, or sell your Daytona and get the old sub and keep some cash. 2 for 1 is not a good deal unless you don't want your 1, and really want these 2...

Complicated. Depends on how much you love the Daytona, ultimately.

Agreed. Do you think you're okay with departing with the Daytona?

I'm biased of course, but I would keep the Daytona and put the potential $1800 towards a 1680 or no date here on TRF.

not a bad deal if he has all the paper work and box etc..but I would want a straight up deal no cash on the Daytona’s side. I have done A similar flip years ago and still miss my daytona but have my eye on the new one in Rose gold..
good luck either way

Are you looking to flip the 2 watches you would be picking up to fund the YM Blue face that you were looking at???

If your intent is to keep the 114060 and 1680 then you may need to top off a little but not $1800... maybe $900. If you're going to flip them to fund the 116622 then ask yourself if the 1680 and 114060 will sell well. I think the 114060 would sell quickly. The 1680 may take a while.

I'd do it but without the 1800 back to him.

I'm a Daytona fan, but feel that the SS models are way overpriced since the Daytona precious metal prices are in line with other models in precious metal on the secondary market.

Also, there might be something very interesting on the horizon at this years Baselworld for the Daytona. Might as well free up that slot.

I have never cared much for the Daytona, so I would do the trade, but for less cash. If you really like your Daytona and worked hard to achieve it, then you should think twice about letting it go. If you still want a sub, add a few more dollars with the 1800 and just buy one later on.

If you are conceptually ok with the trade, add me to the "Trade with no cash" camp! Good luck.

I agree 100%. I just got my ND SUB C and it is the best Rolex sport watch I have ever owned. You will love it and you get a classic serviced Sub along with it. Take the deal and run with it.
