What's the importance of certain serial numbers?

I sometimes see requests for a 16710 M serial only or a 14060 D serial only, etc. What's the appeal/importance of certain serial numbers with some model numbers?

Some people keep track of minor cosmetic, or bracelet, or clasp changes by the serial number that those differences first appeared. So they might want a particular serial number range based on their preferences.

Slight changes, ie a 3186 movement from a 3185 in a GMT, an M addition to a 14060, 2 line writing to 4 etc that happened with a certain serial.

No Rolex serial is important the only important thing about a serial is it matches your warranty paper or card. And you cannot by any serial 100% guarantee that it will have the minor cosmetic detail that may have changed on that particular model.Rolex introduced the single letter serial in 1987 followed by 6 numbers. Now over the past 36 years they have made such a huge vast amount watches and sold. They have run out of single letter number permutations, hence from 2010 on we now have the so called random which in theory should never run out. But all case serials are just serials a mixture of a letter and numbers much like the millions upon millions of other Rolex serials over the years..
