Not all dial options advertised?

I've noticed that some pics of Datejust IIs that I've seen online are nowhere to be found in the Rolex website or the official Rolex Datejust II catalogue from the Rolex website.

For example, they don't advertise the DJII in fluted black with the stick markers, or in fluted silver. I like those, but they only show these with the smooth bezel.

Can anyone enlighten me on why this is? Did Rolex discontinue those? How do you confirm what all the true dial options are? If it's not advertised, how do you know it's a genuine Rolex?

Thanks!

You need the master catalog for all the combinations. Your AD will have it

I think it's a way for Rolex to help make possible customers go to an AD. Half the battle of making a sale is getting a customer into the store!

There are hundreds of combinations for some watches, when you take into account dials, bezels and bracelets, I don't think it would be physically possible to show everything. Best thing to do is to find the bracelet, bezel and metal combination you like, then pick your favourite dial from the master catalogue

The website is not the catalog.. It has never had all the combinations and options for every model..

Interesting explanation. I have always wondered why they did not show all possible combinations on-line. The number of combinations is certainly not a problem.

Interesting. I can't decide between the black, the white, and the silver. I prefer black on everything (clothes, cars, etc.) but as far as the DJII is concerned I like 'em all.

Anyone know if the diamond dial on the DJII has any luminescent material on the hands or hour locations to be able to read the time in the dark?
