I have a Rolex and I know absolutely nothing
My grandfather came across an old Rolex while he was cleaning and gave it to me, I know nothing about Rolex's or watches in general and I was hoping you guys could help me out here.
It is a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer dated 1979 If wound by shaking it around it will tick, I'm not sure how accurate it is at keeping time as I haven't worn it around. The main problem is that the knob (right word?) to set the time pulls completely out and doesn't set the time if twisted or anything. Is my next step to take it to a watch repair shop? Thanks |

Pictures needed, the problem could be anything but likely set lever screw is loose.

Q. How did you manage to date it at 1979?

Take some sharp pictures and post them here, before taking the watch anywhere.

How can someone "come across a Rolex while cleaning"? Well, I came across a Goya painting when looking in my bookshelves one day, but I thought it was quite an extraordinary event difficult to happen again...
