Purchase Advice

Good evening all,

I am new to the forum but am looking for some advice and tips if possible. For a while now I have been searching for the perfect watch from my birth year and it has become a bit of an obsession.

I have now found a watch that ticks every box other than the fact that it is for sale on ebay. obviously I am very dubious about everything it says. Even more disappointing it is a Belgian seller so I cant even view the item.

Am I allowed to display the link to the listing on here or can I send this to any of you guys in a private message?

I love everything about the watch but hate that fact that it is only available on eBay.

Is there any way that I can protect myself when looking at this, is there any tips or things I need to look out for any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can post it here. Nothing wrong with Ebay if the seller is reputable.

I've gotten some awesome stuff on eBay. One seller was a retired Rolex guy I knew ten years ago, selling some of his personal stuff because he had a cardiac surgery. In addition to the auction, he sold me a near-mint black-dialed 1002 for just over $800. All his stuff was perfect. Take your time, read the reputation and feedback: I'm always looking for someone who has sold THAT TYPE of merchandise before, and who has had transactions of that magnitude, dollar-wise, and who has been active on the 'Bay for more than three years.

I've tried putting it on but I think it needs to be approved by a moderator first

Hopefully there will be plenty of advice coming your way when the experts on here get chance to have a look at it, I can't comment as I don't have enough experience but it does look a classy watch!

Only 36+ feedback and he is in Belgium as you said, and this is the most expensive watch he has had listed to date.
I'm not sure if I'd part with my cash just for that reason, but it's your money m8.
I'll have a look on sites I check in the UK, also try the seller forum on the board, some great deals to be had there from trusted TRF sellers :-)

Thanks for the comments and for having a look.

It's not just for the year connection, like most I've always wanted to own a Rolex, love vintage watches and already have a nice watch collection, this is just the next piece in the jigsaw. Should have put that in the original post.

I'm really taken with the watch in the link, it's just such a shame it's not a reputable dealer selling it.

Does anyone else have any other comments/advice?

Yes, I prefer the smaller watches, as my wrists are embarrassingly small. One of the reasons I prefer vintage

Build a rapport with the seller and even get his phone # if you are really serious. After that you can make a better decision about the seller. Good luck...

The seller isn't being particularly forthcoming however I do really like the watch.

Can any other experts offer the opinion on the link and its authenticity?

That is not a good sign. You should tell him you are going to fly over and visit him and can you take it to an AD together to verify it. Ask many questions and see how he reacts. In fact you could ask him to verify it at an ADs right now with a letter and say you will pay for that too if it is genuine.
