Not feeling the "PAM" love anymore...

I am thinking about selling my Base. I have worn it exactly 3 times in the last month and a half and it does not call to me anymore. Nothing wrong with it... Still a beautiful and unique watch.

Part of me is now questioning the need to have X thousands tied up in two watches..... Especially since I have been relying on the Sub LV-C more and more as my "go to" watch....

Anyone else ever go through a similar phase?

Pam can be so boring of its simplicity. I know simple can be beautiful. But it can easily bored imo.

Sounds like it's not the Panerai so much as it is a "one watch suits me" situation. Sell the 000 and enjoy the LVc. Not much to debate.

Haven't touched my PAM's in a while… Every time i do put on the 372 I fall in love all over again, I think it's the best Panerai… but Panerai just faded to me , I hate their customer service, marketing principles, a lot about the brand made me sour… and i'm a big collector

This is what has kept me PAM-less. I've always suspected they wouldn't have staying power, and once the novelty wore off I would lose interest. Not trying to start an argument; those who own and love PAMs, more power to you.

Sounds like you have a rotation issue not a watch one. Put the PAM in rotation and then you will really know how to proceed. Good Luck!

True.

I can't seem to get rid of my Panerai collection though, it's a feel good situation with having a stout collection with very hard to get pieces… Maybe an ego thing? Or just the fact that i'm a true aficionado

As I said, Pam 372 is a keeper, I truly love it and it reminds me of OLD Panerai. I think that's the only thing going for it and me now a day's, the fact that, it's pretty true to it's heritage…

And my Panerai 162 which is sentimental… Otherwise would I really love and keep them without emotional attachments? Not so sure.

I've become an AP wh0re how I was with Panerai , I hope the same doesn't happen However you just can't compare the two.

Bottom line is, I think too many of anything is NOT necessarily a good thing. It gets boring

So very true... But like someone else also said, tastes change with time... Which is why a collection is ever changing.

I sold the last of my PAM, a 112, and that would be the last PAM that I would ever own.

I have had quite a few PAM, some rare ones, but I end up losing interest in them pretty quickly and sold them off. To think of it, I think I was more interested in (collecting) the custom straps rather than the watch itself.

Anyway, I moved on, and I am not looking back. Panerai makes nice watches, they are just not my cup of tea ... at least not any more.

Let me end this with a positive note, I bought a 39mm Explorer after I sold the 112. :)

I like my PAM104, it is sentimental to me. I bought it to celebrate my son's birth. It doesn't get a lot of wear time, but I wear it for the whole month of October (his birthday), and maybe a couple other times for a month at a time.
I like the strap concept, it's the opposite of Rolex's thou shall not change the look iron fist rule. The strap is tough to change out of the deployant buckle though.

Interesting perspectives. I only have one - a 111F.

I don't wear it that often but every time I strap it on - I enjoy the big, simple, bold design and it's fun to be able to have a strap that works with whatever I happen to be wearing.

Never owned one but always wanted a 111.

Was in Florence recently and planned on purchasing there. Thought it would be a cool experience to buy it at the Firenze Boutique, especially since I'd get a nice savings with the exchange rate and VAT refund.

But then something weird happened. Tried it on, looked in the mirror and ... Nothing. Did nothing for me at all anymore.

Looked at my wife and she had the same reaction.

Time to look for something else I guess.

I will say though that the Florence boutique was great. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Definitely worth a visit for any PAM fan.

I rotate btw pam and rolex a lot and for me, having an option pending on the mood or weather.. is a great thing. In the summer, I sport the stainless steel Rolex more and during fall and winter, more pam with straps.

I love Panerais for the straps, but after having both Pams and APs, the Pams started to fade for me.

I only wear the nicer watches on weekends, so always found myself reaching for the APs...so off went the 005 and 233...

DING DING DING..

It's sad, because we think of ourselves as enthusiasts, not elitists , however we become so in our own way and within our own collection !!!

personally, in my current life situation i have a lot of other $$ priorities over buying all of the watches i lust over. young family etc. etc. (man daycare is a $%^@#) lol

with that said, i like divers. so when im hunting i try to find a brand, particular watch that doesnt look to much like the ones i already have. then i start thinking like you. i have thousands tied up into watches that "look the same". i want more than one watch, but i try to keep them different. eventually ill probably own a pam because they look completely different than most divers..

Sold my Pam 005 towards a JLC Reverso Tribute to 1931

I always felt the Pam was too big for my wrist. I think it's a great watch for the right person, but not for me. I am sure the next owner will love it.

That actually worked..... Been wearing the 000 most of the week. It reminded me of what drew me to the watch in the first place.
