Scammed

Hi all I have been the subject of a scam. I bought a Tudor Watch 89190 new in box with all papers from a UK Seller and paid £1150 plus £40 insured last Friday and it arrived today through post.

I was so excited opening the box only to find that it was Empty. I phoned the seller straight away and she has promised a full refund I also contacted PayPal and Local Police and I have been assured that I will receive a full refund.

Just to let you all know to be very careful when purchasing.

Not much information to go on who was the UK seller.

wait and see , maybe a genuine mistake ,,,, no money /watch then its a different story.
ive posted letters and forgotten to put in a cheque and its been a genuine mistake.
i guess the reaction of the seller would speak volumes.

I had a nightmare of a day yesterday. I bought the watch through Paypal from a UK Seller after seeing the watch on EBay I contacted her and she asked to complete the transaction outside EBay but through Paypal and because I wanted this particular watch I agreed. She insisted on getting insurance on the watch which was very expensive at £82 sterling.

I paid on the 12 September and waited for her to ship it and send me a track number and so yesterday the package arrived and I was like a kid on Christmas morning opening the box but my heart nearly stopped when I realised the Box was empty. It is a genuine Tudor Box with the instruction book and it also has the Anchor but no watch or papers.

I immediately contacted the seller and she acted surprised but thinking back now she was very calm about it and promised me a refund but I got straight onto Paypal and they froze her account. The rest of my day was spent taking making statements to Police and speaking to Paypal. But at 5pm yesterday evening I eventually got my account credited by PayPal and they will pursue the seller if she has not got enough funds in her account.

Top tip. When accepting an expensive package you should Take photos or better still video the package before you open it so you have proof that it was not you who tampered with it because that's what I done yesterday and it helped me get my refund faster.

The watch was a Tudor Hydronaut 89190 with Black Face. I paid £1165 for it. The sellers first name is Franca. I am not prepared to say any more about the seller at moment.

PS I am now on the look out to buy a Tudor 89190 if anyone is selling :-) :-)

This is terrible. But maybe it is me, but something seems off. In reading enough posts from people that were scammed there is never a reluctance to provide details. If not initially, then in a followup post or posts. If I had spent the day making statements to the police you could be damn sure I would have provided the seller's details. If a refund comes you could always retract. So, once again, please provide details!

I'm surprised they didn't freeze your eBay account for purchasing outside of eBay to save on the fees. Never do this.

I have learned a lot of lessons from trying to make this purchase happen. I will never know where the watch ended up or if it was ever in the box in the first place. I have received a full refund from Paypal and I am still looking out for a Tudor 89190.

Buyer beware

I've had buyers ask to purchase items from me outside of eBay and I'll never do it, even if it saves some fees. So many slimmy people out there.

Glad you got the refund, lesson learned for sure.

Yeah, don't buy outside of ebay. I'm surprised you got any help from Paypal at all, since this was an Ebay transaction taken off Ebay!

Somehow I expect this story isn't completely done.

Absolutely wrong. You can use paypal outside ebay and choose not to use it as a gift. That's why in the FS section sellers say buyer pays fees. However if you choose to use it as a gift, then your recourse is very limited....

But if you do choose to send it as a gift to avoid fees, paypal can't do anything... at least I thought.

EXACTLY!!

Again can't understand for life of me why people buy from unknown sellers with no solid references and reputation. Makes no sense to me and it is the easiest rule to follow in watch collecting: BUY THE SELLER!
