Gold thru buckle start date?

I recently bought this watch on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321262934350...84.m1423.l2648

I am wondering what year Rolex started introducing the gold thru the buckle? A buddy of mine said he thought the gold thru buckle didn't start until 2003. The eBay ad says this was manufactured in 2001. It says that the watch is Solid End Link but the picture shows holes in the case?

What do you think?

Sorry for the dumb questions, but I am a first time Rolex buyer.

I can't speak to the buckle question, but a sub can have lug holes and solid end links. I have a sub that has both.

Ok cool. I think I got a legit watch then. The holes on the case make sense since this is a 2001. I just got a bit worried when a friend of mine said the gold thru the buckle started in 2003. Everything I read online said A serial 1999.

.

The "gold thru the buckle" was introduced with the new SEL bracelet 93253. It replaced 93153 in 1999.

So all SEL bracelet use this clasp.

Can anyone tell me what it would cost to swap out my 93153 bracelet on my 1999 A Series Submariner to the newer 93253 bracelet with the YG through the oyster clasp that started in 2000?

I would expect just the 93253 clasp on its own would fit and a far cheaper option.

My 14233M is a Two-Tone with a SS buckle just like the one shown above. It's a P serial number. When I sent the watch to RSC NYC for service, I asked if they would change the buckle to the TT one. Absolutely not, was their response.

For your 14233M it's another story as bracelet 78353 have always had ss clasp, and have never been updated to a SEL version. Its clasp, without oysterlock, never existed in two tones. Only the links were TT.

For a TT 93250 bracelet, MSRP is 4.700 us$

According to RSC NYC whom I just spoke with you cannot change the buckle only, you have to swap out the entire bracelet.....they will do it for $4050 with trade-in of original bracelet

It is a piece of gold glued on just like the old end link glued pieces of gold before solid link.
